@_StevenFan 6 months! The guest room is perpetually available to y'all. Lemme text you tomorrow but we really have nothing going on. Major failure of imagination. Help me actualize one weekend

@Havoc_XXI @MarinerMuse It is, but his value is highest to the Mariners at SS given the positional adjustment and how well he hits. I don't love it but I get why they're keeping him there. He would take DH at-bats away from Raley/Canzone, too.

@TaylorRobot @MarinerMuse Having JP at SS is a seriously liability and I can only hope Cole or Colt don’t end up hurting themselves trying to make up for JPs constant screw-ups.

@sgodofsk Most people (including me, a Jew) have no idea what objects are considered Nazi symbology. Obviously I know the big one and the golden eagle, but that's it. We need to stop overcomplicating. It's option #2, but to say that is disqualifying is why Democrats lost the working class.

there are two possible explanations for graham platner's nazi tattoo 1. he's a nazi 2. he's a dingus who got a nazi tattoo while drunk without realizing what it is the 2nd one is clearly correct but both are disqualifying for US senate membership so it's a moot point really

@lxeagle17 @ettingermentum I am in my mid-30s and Janet Mills is just a few years shy of my grandma. I would absolutely not expect Mills to win the primary if enough ME Dem voters have learned she's almost 80. It is not energizing to keep seeing these establishment-supported gerontocratic candidates.

@ettingermentum Lot to be said about Platner's deficiencies, and this is not to excuse them — but it's also pretty clear that Mills is just a bad candidate. You'd still expect Mills to win. But early polling numbers do mean more when there's universal name recognition for both candidates.

@buildwithbob @JeremiahDJohns Yeah, perfect example of why the online Dem center-left needs to chill assuming that everyone is a symbologist. Some stuff just looks cool. I'm Jewish and I think the imperial eagle is a great design. Sometimes we have aesthetic preferences or aren't thinking about it too hard.

"Mills is more electable" was a plausible line early in the race, but I'm not sure it's plausible any more. I'm not a big fan of the guy, but he seems to have the juice with voters. The scandals don't seem to matter very much.

@JeremiahDJohns Also, and I know everyone disputes this, it seems incredibly plausible to me that he got drunk and got a tattoo and then the next day was like "oh fuck, this is a Nazi thing?"

@JeremiahDJohns IMO it all comes down to perceived sincerity. Platner has a very unusual version of what Bill Clinton had. Voters believe he means what he says. He's an authentic guy, as reflected by his pastiche of median voter-esque beliefs.

And in the case I misread this - I think they’ve handled JP and the SS position pretty well all things considered. JP is a future surefire Mariners HOFer. He’s been a joy to have on the club for his tenure - and I’m glad I bought him a pizza.

I do think that Colt needs to show enough offensively for it to be a foregone conclusion that JP is gone in 2027. But I also think that bar is likely low enough where he almost certainly will.

@thejagepage In the golden age of shortstops, are the mariners being complacent with hanging onto JP Crawford?

Occasionally you meet one who is the greatest of all, the one who feels like home, made of the same stuff, but if they don’t want to be locked down there is nothing to be done but let them go and hope that miraculously there is another coming someday. Alignment is so rare.
Illimitable Man (IM)@SovereignIM

I cannot stress this enough: be you man or woman, when you find someone who is *TRULY GREAT* you must obsess over them and lock them down. This is not desperation in so much as it is recognition. Do not let a beautiful soul pass you by. Tether yourselves to each other.

@colinokeefe And you'd think Wilson is the wonky progressive to make it happen! I like the hotel concept. You'd think her team is considering it. My NW Seattle neighborhood is building a ton of apartment and condo density and ~80% of folks I mention this to are aghast. Pretty depressing.

@TaylorRobot I mean right now they need an urgent solution on the level of sweeps. Whether that's a place where camping and RVs are allowed, an EO to buy a hotel or what, idk. Long term, zoning is the big change we must see. Citywide. ASAP. Obviously a multitude of other issues.

@colinokeefe If Wilson can't make it happen, this might just never go away. I fear the way forward is either letting developers make low-income housing (feels wrong but they're OK at it) or backroom deals for private funding from the uber-rich where the mayor/council concede things we'll hate

@colinokeefe 100%, and I'd chalk it up to (1) whopping needless fees that the city incurs farming out work to expensive consultancies instead of actually hiring internally, (2) every homeowner flipping their lid about low-income housing dev near them, and (3) corporate taxes being too low.
