@ChuZhen1 Our goal is to get them there as soon as we can (first to Insider Beta, then General Availability) but it'll vary feature by feature so we can make sure each one is ready to go.

@TeaAndDates The updates are great, when will they be available to general users who are not on the Insider Program?

Now available: updates that make the Taskbar and Start feel way more personal. You’ve been asking (loudly! repeatedly! passionately!) and you were right. Let me know what you think.

@MattBDev That is one of the nicest comments I've seen! I love the "yeah it may not be for me but I know others will appreciate it" energy. Thanks!

@TeaAndDates Way to go! You guys did an awesome job and in such a short amount of time too! While I personally don’t like some of the changes, it’s what the people wanted. I think this will go a long way in restoring trust in the dedicated user base. 🥳🩵

@mayank_jee The changes we're announcing today are about customizing the existing Start menu (size, sections, recommendations, and hiding your avatar)

@TeaAndDates About the Start menu -- is it the new WinUI version, or is that still in the works?

@microsofterses ...removing unnecessary work and visual animations. Beyond launch, we’re doing the foundational engineering to eliminate unnecessary disk reads, reduce hangs, and improve responsiveness across the board, many of which will also directly benefit launch performance...

When I talk about work we're doing to make Windows more reliable, performant, and crafted, there's been a category of comments that I will...politely 😉... summarize as "prove it". No doubt we've got more to do, but excited to share what we've delivered so far!
Marcus Ash@marcusash

Sharing April highlights as part of your ask for more transparency. Thanks for pushing us forward. Proud to be part of this community. @WindowsInsider flights are live today. aka.ms/WIP-5-1-26Upda…

Yo @marcusash and @windowsinsider! really sorry to bother, but this issue kinda annoys me a bit: in File Explorer, smooth scrolling is available on the Home and Gallery page, but the moment I switched to a new directory, there's no smooth scrolling. Here's an example:

@wenti_man @marcusash @windowsinsider This is interesting feedback, in trying to repro this it definitely feels like the checkbox touch targets are a bit finicky, though the touch marquee box seems to work - lmk if that's what you see too? Thanks for reporting and we'll definitely keep looking into it.

@TeaAndDates @marcusash @windowsinsider I think one of the biggest issues with touch is actually selecting multiple files in a the "details" list. Whenever I try to select files, i have to try it sometimes like 5 times. Oftimes I unselect and have to start over again.

@microsofterses @marcusash @MourningGlyph @windowsinsider Can you say more about #1? Vertical touch scroll should work but perhaps there's a bug we're not aware of ?For #2 you can change the double click behavior for both mouse and touch but I hear you on wanting to have them act differently. It's something we'll have to think about.

For me, the 2 main points are: 1) Touch scroll 2) Click and doble click logic: i feel that the pointer logic shouldn be the same with mouse and touch. With mouse, i expect doble click opening a file, but on touch i would expect a single finger-click opening the file as it works on every mobile touch system (I’m not sure I’m making myself clear)

With more talk and hope around UI consistency in Windows 11 recently, I really hope these old Win8 spinning dots on the login and shutdown/sign out/etc. screens finally get updated this year. Please.

@marcusash @MourningGlyph @windowsinsider ...Things like type ahead, auto-column resizing, multi-view support and more. We're focusing on other reliability and perf improvements in File Explorer to begin, but we're planning to tackle this too as soon as we can!

@marcusash @MourningGlyph @windowsinsider Totally agree with the feedback and it's something we want to address. We rewrote Home and Gallery in a new framework to enable that smooth scrolling, but the other file views have tons of hidden quality of life features that folks rely on and we'd need to bring forward...

@marcusash @zacbowden @phantomofearth @marchr @JenMsft It's definitely on our list - and it's surprisingly complicated (or at least it was surprising to me!) Depending on what update type and what step you're on, different components draw the UX so we're working through a lot of history, but we'll get there. Thx for bearing with us!
