It's striking how many people fail to understand that quantified evaluations, such as standardized tests and rubrics, are no more objective than narratives & other qualitative appraisals. They just use numbers to conceal the subjective judgments that underpin them.

"Believing that the points we record in our gradebooks are objective, we then further believe that the sum of these points convey truth—truth about what our students have learned. But this, too, is a myth." from Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics by @pgliljedahl

@harachiello @MarcusLuther6 @TeachersOnFire Oh for sure! Put up an image on the board 🖼️Students describe the image to their partner. Partners must name the image. I don’t do this just for a brain break but also to review content and to practice using the language of the content (I teach science).

@chatbiology When I taught in my hometown #ymm I took students on a short walk to the beaver pond behind the school. Students were able to observe, and document biodiversity in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.

This isn't sustainable. Teachers need to be able to do their best work w/ kids when we can give the attention they need & deserve. @Alberta_UCP WMA funding model does nothing to address the ⬆️ enrollment, growth, & ⬆️ complexity of student needs. This govt MUST do better.

Pssst. We’re all behind on our grading. And it’s okay. 27 years. Never not been behind. No one cared but me, so I quit caring. Well, mostly.

Have you noticed that the "teachable" or "AHA" moments in class often have little to do with the lesson plan, but almost everything to do with relationships. Relationships before rigor.
