@RogersHistory Powerful. It’s easy to get too comfortable somewhere where everyone roots for your ideals. Knowing a different side exists is powerful - especially if you can eventually learn to respect each other.

Looks like I'll be the last person standing here soon. I sort of see X as a much more unregulated space now with the voices of literally everyone - online speech with no filters. In some ways, I'd rather that than an echo chamber, but on the flip side you are exposed to a lot of stuff, some of which might be wild, extreme or misinformed. You also might just strongly disagree. However, like in a virtual city, I would ignore/stay away from what I wanted to, maybe sometimes challenge it openly, rather than delete myself. I rarely block but will. I also struggle to see the moral betterness of platforms like Meta or Tiktok to X, this is based on what's happened to young ppl on those platforms amongst other things. I want to be somewhere. It's far from perfect but I really appreciate every connection I have on here and I've made on here over 10 years, even the connections I disagree with and who disagree with me. If you go, I'll keep tweeting stuff until maybe one day you come back... or I just talk into the abyss lol.

@RogersHistory I used to teach year 6 for the longest time. There were points where I’d just say “This lesson is going to suck so let’s just crack on and do our best.” - they always preferred that kind of honesty.

The idea there is something wrong with a high school if some students really don’t want to be there is mad to me. Me and most of my mates would have much rather stayed in bed and done whatever we wanted, cos the school/teachers were bad? No. Because we were teenagers and couldn’t really be bothered and didn’t want to be told what to do all day.

a LOT of kids seem to be involved, seems an excuse for a fight, a lot of laughing and giddy violence. We already know too many young ppl are growing up without any sense of responsibility, accountability, respect. Unfortunately, in schools I do not believe that the culture of always giving reasons, excuses and opt outs is helping. We need to wake up and get tougher in schools on assaults, abuse and racism. Teachers who work in these tough schools and tough areas need to be at the forefront of any conversations going forward.

@Dexerto Review bombing has really helped a lot of games break from terrible corporate practices. Helldivers 2 and Star Wars Battlefront 2 come to mind immediately. Without a platform for customers to vent dissatisfaction easily, nothing is ever done.

50K+ a year and 30% minimum PPA. That's what's needed to start to sort teaching out. Full backing for teachers and schools on behaviour would be next. Stop spending money on think tanks, surveys, reports, OFSTED, bursaries, schemes and speeches. Just do this.

She wasn’t inadequate. No one gets to headship without being more than capable of doing the job. She sacrificed significant moments in her life doing her job. She served her community. An inspectorate that ruins lives is inadequate. bbc.co.uk/news/education…

@EdadventuresM That school would have me miss five minutes of my break to babysit so kids can do TTRS - awful for both parties. That’s a hard no from me - especially for homework.

Sometimes I really 🤬the education system. Mdidn’t pick up ipad from Fri eve wkend b’coz she was out at the theatre, riding new bike, helping forage in the woods, sleepover at museum, doing Sci, fire marshal at an event, watching a movie as a family & having an early night 😥

@TeachingChap I’ve taught year 6 for years. Behaviour can get a bit manic - depending on the cohort - in the last term. But most things, even the stress of SATs isn’t a bother.

I’d like to write a blog about teaching in Year 6. Please do comment any other thoughts and repost for as wide a range as possible. Thanks! What don’t you like about/what puts you off teaching in Year 6?

@MrAllington It’s the worst thing anyone can bring to a moderation session and a massive waste of everyone’s time. Just be a couple of books you’re struggling to place.

Mr Allington 🎓🙋🏼‍♂️
I hate it when teachers reach out for a typical ARE child’s writing at this point in the year and someone posts something blatantly GDS. Just… why? 🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️ Happens at moderations too. “I’m really not sure if this child is ARE.” Yes you do Geoff, they’re clearly borderline GDS. 1/

@RogersHistory They are a toxic parasite taking what they can from the profession. I would be glad for their shadow to be banished.

On abolishing ofsted - I can’t imagine the result of doing so would make the profession any worse than it is now. I can only see it being better for everyone to one degree or another.

Creating a system and sticking to it is always more efficient than starting from scratch and building something bespoke each time.
