naval talks about how important accountability is for building a trusted reputation, the culmulative return on reputation compounds quickly. doing things in your own name and owning it a lot of crypto influencers never go all-in on one thing because they don't want to risk anything and they don't have the conviction in their bets. they need relevance not reputation they would rather do market commentary and follow trends instead of having conviction. hedge everything so there is something to quote tweet in the future to prove correct-ness but the real ones know who believed when sentiment was grim. who sold the dream during the depression no one cares if you support the current thing, but everyone remembers if you post a kingmaker trade while everyone else thought you were retarded. think cobie's buy wall, ansem's solana bid these are reputation-defining moments precisely because they are accountable and took public risk. i would argue the reputational gains accrued from many of these trades probably outweighed the financial gain of the trades themselves over a longer time frame there was a lot of reputational risk for me to change my alignment from my core base on solana to going all-in hyperliquid, but it was supported by a thesis and a conviction. it was what i believed and how i was positioned, so it was an honest account without alterior motives if i was wrong i stood to be accountable for my incorrectness, if i was right i stood to gain. i could have played it differently by bull posting both then just claiming i was right by selectively looking back, but the real ones see the difference, even if subconsciously the issue here is so many ppl are playing for short timeframe gains, trying to get rich tomorrow. building a reputation takes years to build and moments to destroy. be willing to stake your reputation on things you believe in and you can always be honest in your failure. still accountable the issues arise when you align your reputation with something you don't believe in. short term financial gain is not worth long term reputation destruction be accountable and take risks or no one will find you interesting
