This story is beautifully written and a pleasure to read on a Sunday morning - but also a sad reminder of the inequity worsened by climate change. nola.com/news/environme… via @nolanews

@jemelehill Respectfully, don’t miss his point about courage.

“When y’all came to visit last week, it’s like y’all gave me a vitamin C shot.”
Jackie Wallace’s words of joy…. when he called this morning to say he’s counting his blessings. #yououghttodoastoryaboutme

@JSODonoghue @ScottLSternberg It is a fascinating chapter of Louisiana sports history. Thank you @JSODonoghue
English

@ScottLSternberg @TedJacksonPhoto It was a great anecdote from @TedJacksonPhoto's book -- one that has stuck with me. (FWIW Jackie was not removed from the team because he hadn't taken that class, but he didn't have many people to throw the ball to because of it.)
English

I learned a lot about this episode from "You Ought To Do A Story About Me" -- @TedJacksonPhoto's book about Jackie Wallace. (Jackie was on the St. Aug team that integrated the LHSAA.)
It's pretty fascinating. #lalege #lagov
Julie O'Donoghue@JSODonoghue
Eventually, St. Aug sued the LHSAA and forced the sports organization to integrate. Even then, the LHSAA tossed several members of St. Aug's football team from LHSAA competitions because they had taken a social studies class in which TIME magazine was used. #lalege

@VicVela1 So poignant for you to post this today, as Jackie has wrestles with more consequences of his addiction, his CTE, his selfish pride. We don’t give up, his spirit doesn’t give up, but the consequences are so painful to watch. His endless guilt. His endless quest for redemption.

When photojournalist @TedJacksonPhoto found former NFL player Jackie Wallace sleeping under an overpass in 1991, it was the start of a lifelong friendship.
But addiction is hard on the people who love you.
Ted shares his wisdom with folks who have loved ones hooked on drugs:

@TedJacksonPhoto @COPublicRadio @CPRNews Thank you, Ted, for sharing your story with us. It's quickly become one of my favorite episodes. Jackie has a lot of folks rooting for him.

In 1990, New Orleans photojournalist @TedJacksonPhoto was taking pics of a homeless camp. A man says, “You ought to do a story about me.”
“Because I played in 3 Super Bowls.”

Back From Broken: “There’s gonna be times in this episode when you’ll think Jackie is all in the clear, just like Ted thought. But the unfortunate reality is addiction doesn’t let go of people easily.”
Take a listen. Your day will be blessed.
