@Xtopher_Uzo Yes it seems like it although it's kind of jumbled around here and there, I was born in 65 so my formative years were a mix of the more traditional fading away while new things were brought in. Unfortunately there was a lot of Overkill such as pop music being used at Mass.

Catholics, honest question. If you are asked to translate the Tantum Ergo into your local language, can you do it?

@Xtopher_Uzo To be fair, the translation, now that I look at it and compare the two does take some artistic license but I feel that it has the same meaning. The song we learned in English was: down in adoration falling, this great Sacrament we hail, over ancient forms of worship, etc

@PrasVector @historyinmemes The slot was just enough room to drop a blade into. Or maybe some coins. There's no way that a toothbrush would fit, not even close

@historyinmemes That's wild. Imagine accidentally dropping a toothbrush down there or a kid finding the stash. Definitely a relic from a less safetyconscious time.

Historic Vids
Historic Vids@historyinmemes·
Before the early 1970s, many medicine cabinets featured a hidden slot designed for disposing of used razor blades, allowing them to drop directly into the space inside the bathroom wall. The design was primarily driven by convenience and safety. Thin steel razor blades were extremely sharp and posed a risk to anyone handling household trash, especially during a time when garbage was often burned, buried, or manually collected. Because the empty space inside bathroom walls was considered a permanent place where the blades could remain undisturbed, manufacturers turned wall cavities into built-in disposal compartments. It was a simple and inexpensive solution that became common in millions of homes until improved waste systems and changing construction practices eventually made the slots unnecessary.

@Dumb_Marketing_ @historyinmemes Actually this was in practice during the very early 1900s which would be the greatest generation, not the boomers. As a matter of fact it was two generations before the Boomers. The more you know.

Hello again. We’re currently in Clemson, South Carolina. I’ve decided to come back here to document the final part of our road trip. The main reason I deactivated my account two weeks ago was that things became increasingly toxic. For some people, it’s unfortunately unfathomable that a good story can exist without some kind of hidden agenda behind it. There was even a Reddit group going through my entire account trying to find anything they could use to reveal my identity. I know this was only a small percentage of people, but after a while it became exhausting. During the last two weeks, I received so many kind messages on Instagram, and they really made me realize how many people genuinely enjoyed following the trip. Some people even told me that their grandparents regularly ask them, “What are the Germans up to today?” I think that’s really cool. I decided to continue because I realized that the overwhelming majority of people loved following along. A small group of very loud people shouldn’t be able to ruin something that brought so many others joy. I also want to clear something up, as people who follow me on Instagram already know. I’ve been to the United States before. This is not my first visit, and I’ve never claimed that it was. The last time I was here was in January 2022, when I visited New York and Philadelphia. A lot of people shared my Raising Cane’s post from November 2025 to make it look like I was secretly American. That post wasn’t from the United States, it was from my trip to Saudi Arabia. This is my first time back in the U.S. in more than four years, and apart from Boston, I’d never visited any of the places we’ve been to on this trip before. That’s probably why many people assumed it was our first time in America, because for all of these places, it actually was. And let me tell you, Ohio and Alabama are very different from New York City or Los Angeles. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for reading.

@hokkori_buzz No. If I go somewhere that is different from my home, I'm going there because I want to see the differences. If I go to Spain I want to see flamenci dancers and cathedrals and processions. If I go to France I want to have a real croissants and French pastries and hear French

Genuine question from Japan 🇯🇵 I heard that on quiet American back roads, people wave at every car that passes. Even strangers. Even if you'll never see them again. In Japan, waving at random cars would feel… extremely weird. Is this still a real thing? And what does the wave actually MEAN — hello, courtesy, "I see you," something else? I'd love to hear it from people who actually do this.

On behalf of the largest police news outlet in the world, we're officially calling for the resignation or termination of this officer IMMEDIATELY. A female Fort Worth police officer was caught on camera threatening to ticket a retired federal law enforcement officer and Christian street preacher for “offensive speech.” The officer told the man that if someone is offended by his preaching, then “we have a problem” and said she would issue him a ticket. When he asked if she was really going to ticket him for offensive speech, she replied, “Yes, I am.” This is a blatant violation of the First Amendment. Police officers do not have the authority to ticket people for speech that offends others. That is the exact opposite of how freedom of speech works in America. The fact that this officer targeted a retired federal law enforcement officer who was simply preaching makes this even more unacceptable. Departments that employ officers who openly disregard the Constitution need to clean house. This kind of behavior erodes public trust and makes every good officer’s job harder. Pass this along so more people see what is happening on our streets. #FortWorthPD #FirstAmendment

@oliverhenry Sometimes you can also find it in glass bottles made here in the USA with the original sugar cane. Right now you can get a little six pack of miniature 8 oz bottles with a 250th America's anniversary logo on it.

I realise now that why Americans scoff when I say original Coca-Cola is my favourite drink The whole time I’ve been here I thought the coke just wasn’t the same. But I got told “Mexican coke” is great. So I got some Mexican coke and it tastes just like home. Turns out the corn syrup the US coke uses completely ruins the taste. Very happy to have some proper coke 👍

ICE fatally shot a man in Texas. His son reportedly witnessed the death.   The greatest threat to our safety is DHS. CBP and ICE continue to violently attack our neighbors and trample the rights of our residents.   Enough is enough! We must pass my Melt ICE Act and dismantle DHS!

Somewhere in America, a movie theater. The boy at the concession counter asked me a question about architecture, and called it butter. "You want that layered?" Layered. I looked at the popcorn. I looked at him. "Explain." "Instead of all the butter on top, I do butter, popcorn, butter, popcorn." He mimed the strata with a flat hand. He had explained this before. He would explain it again. A craftsman, patient with the public. I was not prepared. In my land, what is given is given; you do not direct the distribution of a blessing. Here, the boy stood ready to construct my popcorn in courses, like a stone wall — foundation, mortar, foundation, mortar — so that no kernel, however deep, would live unblessed. "The ones at the bottom," I said slowly, "are usually…" "Dry. Yeah. Not on my watch." NOT ON MY WATCH. The oath of a sentry, sworn over popcorn. This is who they have guarding the snacks. "Then layer it," I commanded, "as your conscience demands." He built it like a man who would be judged by it. Pour, pump, rotate. Pour, pump, rotate. Four stories. A tower of equal blessings. The film was fine. I do not remember it. What I remember is the eightieth minute, deep in the bucket, past the depth where popcorn hope usually dies — and finding the kernels there as golden as the first. The bottom of the bucket. As rich as the top. I confess I held one kernel up in the dark and simply looked at it. Butter on top blesses the surface. Butter in layers blesses the whole nation. I tipped the boy on the way out. He had already forgotten me. The best masons forget the wall, and begin the next one. Layered. Always layered. Some words you only need to learn once.
