@NewStatesman 1/2 Removing British citizenship has been possible for over a century and is always a last resort against the most dangerous people to protect our national security and public safety. It is rare, cannot leave anyone stateless and always comes with a right to appeal.

This account is absolutely devastating. Despite calls for help, UK and French authorities *refused* to rescue people. At least 27 people needlessly lost their lives as a result.
Our governments both have blood on their hands.

The hierarchy of racisms we live with means this is fine. Islamophobia is such an issue that it is a non-issue. It is invisible through it's ubiquity, it is the norm. The things Azeem Rafiq went through were manifestations of this mainstream.
