Compare this precision operation of courage, professionalism, training, attention to detail, and protection of an American fighter to the absolute failure of top Pentagon leadership that allowed a Chinese Spy balloon to fly completely across the US land mass, circling military installations before being shot down AFTER it had completely flown over the entire land mass of the US. And then we had the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan that was totally compromised because the American leaders in government wanted to align the withdrawal with Sept 11th for political talking points, that completely violated the original withdrawal agreement. Once again the US military is making good strategic decisions that are based on fact and the premise to protect our citizens and military personnel, and not some woke political propaganda gimmick. Now if we can get our Congress reconstituted to actually represent the benefit of We the People and not their own financial interests. This claim of parliamentarian process and long held practice is just plain corruption to delay, delay, delay, to bring in more political donations to the party and candidates, and obstruction due to personal dislike instead of what benefits America.

With yesterday’s incredible rescue of an Air Force warrior, I’m left with two emotions: One, incredible pride in my military and gratitude for having been born and raised in the United States of America. Being an “American” means something and continues to set us apart from the rest. Two, awe for what our services are capable of. All of them! The strides we’ve made over the decades have brought us here. I can attest. I was involved in special operations early in my Air Force career and early in the development of the capabilities you see today. Various iterations of special operations in our military have existed since WWII with no command devoted solely to these unique missions and assets. The seminal event that changed that oversight occurred in 1980, “Desert One” or Operation Eagle Claw. Not ironically, in Iran. An effort to rescue 53 Americans held captive at the US Embassy (for 444 days) went horribly wrong in the Iranian desert in the middle of the night. Eight US servicemen died and no hostages were rescued. It was a stain of the Carter administration and a stain for America. We didn’t get our people. It was then that the US military began the process of uniting the different services and their unique capabilities, ultimately becoming the US Special Operations Command (SOCOM). And SOCOM succeeded dramatically this week! And, I’m particularly proud of my dad, Major General Bob Patterson (USAF). He flew AC-130 Spectre’s in Vietnam and was involved in the planning of Desert One. He realized the shortfalls and would become the commander of Air Force Special Operations Command. The home of Air Force’s special aviators, PJs, Combat Controllers, and the Air Commandos. He’d be absolutely thrilled today.🇺🇸
