Autopilot hasn’t been updated in four to five years now and has no obstacle or debris awareness. If you use antiquated software, results will also be antiquated. Full Self-Driving has shown its capable of charging lanes at rapid speed to avoid slow or stopped vehicles, and will even jut into the nearby lane to avoid vehicles partially in your active lane. Even on V12 (HW3), our vehicle has completed the above maneuver dozens of times, and AI4 with V13-V14 is even more capable.

@ElectrekCo @fredlambert It would have been significantly worse if they weren’t! Lives are lost every day due to drivers falling asleep at the wheel (including those with Narcolepsy). Still, thankfully, there are publications such as Electrek to vilify the usage of life-saving technology.

@wholemars Literally what I thought too. You can tell the folks who aren't old enough to have to ACTUALLY stab brake before ABS was pretty much ubiquitous 😅 Brake jerk is what I would call it. Brake stutter is a good one too.

This to me does not accurately describe what we are seeing in FSD 14.1.4. Maybe in the first update it was repeatedly braking and then going and then braking, but it doesn’t do that anymore. Now it just brakes once for like a fraction of a second. Over cautious, hesitation, micro braking are all accurate terms to describe this I’m not seeing it do brake stabbing for an emergency stop at all

@briandstone @DevinOlsenn Not at all sir. But you should understand that a deep NN doesn't ever explain WHY it output what it did. If it did, anyone could train it!! 😄 You should Gugl "neutral networks black box" and it will explain in detail the issue and answer your original question and this one.

v14 is a brave new world… gone is the smoothness and polish of 13.2.9. Replaced with brake stabbing, swerving and loss of confidence in many situations that 13.2.9 could handle with ease. 1. It stopped and got confused in a very basic round-a-bout. 2. It slammed on the brakes and pulled off the road for what I assume it thought was an emergency vehicle even though there wasn’t one in sight. 3. It keeps swerving around discolorations in the pavement thinking there is an object in the road. I wish FSD could advance and improve with each version rather than feeling like we are going backwards and starting over. I need a drink…

@jchybow As I just found out this morning: that is correct bro. I have changed it to that now, because on my 3.6 mile route to work I've encountered a motorcycle cop with a speed gun at least monthly. Not to mention my last speeding ticket in 2016 was in the city I currently work in 😬

I don't understand why they're not able to improve from a baseline. Why would round-a-bouts spot being smooth? We have been through several updates in the last year and this has been a well working function. Now, it isn't. It's like they have to start all over again with each release. If true, it will be 20 years before it is perfected to the point that anyone can use it without a disclaimer.
