Well now I do believe in evil. People who think like this and genuinely mean it - evil. @GuyTalksFinance Because health, safethy, energy, productivity drop without rest. The minimum rest time in an 8 hour day is a half hour I think. I have seen employers let people have a half hour lunch and leave a half hour earlier to catch infrequent busses but it's at the employers discression.

Let me ask an honest question here: If I work from 9-5 with a 1 hour lunch, why can’t I take my lunch at 4pm and leave an hour early? Why is this a problem?
