Today we buried my dad. Geoff (Z''l) was 80. A licenced London taxi driver for 50yrs. A Chelsea supporter for 70+yrs, since his first match in Dec 1954. A husband to my step-mother for 40yrs. A good man who loved London, its people and his family. May his memory be a blessing.

@GaryDelaney The Jokes With Mark Simmons podcast is fascinating, showing the way timing and a small change in words can make such a difference to a gag. Always great to hear how an expert does his work.

Gary Delaney: New tour now on sale
I went to see the stalactites at Cheddar Gorge. This is another of my old Apollo jokes. This one is particularly interesting though because of the tweak it to took to get it working properly. Sometimes when you write a joke you get it spot on first time that’s it, thunderbolt, it’s done. but that is unusual. More usually a joke will go through a lot of rewrites, A/B testing, pace variations, set position changes and so on. This had done all that. I had the wording nailed down, but it was still a bit too obvious. So it got a groan. During the little pause before the punchline the crowd would get ahead of me and second guess the joke turning what should’ve been a laugh into a groan. So that pause needed to go but it’s quite a long joke by my standards so what I eventually figured out (by doing lots of club sets in the 2000s) was that I needed to adjust my breathing to get this joke to work properly. It needs a deeper breath than normal before the start so you can do the whole run on in one go and hit the punchline just before the crowd do. The alternative would be to edit it down into a two part rhythm joke (ie Lowe the middle) but that would ruin its rhythm and lessen the impact of the punchline. My new tour Gary on Laughing hits the road very soon.

Confessions of a Window Cleaner on the telly again tonight. It's great that these films are now readily available to view on TV. It took until 1997, over 20 years since the films were made, for Confessions to finally make its terrestrial TV debut on Channel 5.

Matthew Badloss @GoodwinMJ flubs Gorton and Denton for Reform. Whether Greens or Labour prevail, presumably Greens, this shock result means Kemi Badenoch is the real winner. Reform were nailed on to win this a month ago, momentum gone. @Conservatives will be thrilled

@Tfoch Hello. I guess you mean the resurfacing work not the burst water pipe at Viewforth? It's on until May. We are currently in phase 1 of 3 as far as I know, the next phase is between Leamington Terrace and Viewforth. ^J twitter.com/edintravel/sta… edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/down…

@edintravel Any idea how long the roadworks at Gilmore Place will be there? Currently can't drive out of Lower Gilmore Place (unless we take our chance down a very narrow one way street, in the wrong direction)
