CHART OF THE DAY: Morgan Stanley reckons that more than half of Russian oil refinery capacity is down due to Ukrainian attacks. Typically, Russia is the world's second-largest diesel exporter - normally around 11% of global seaborne trade.

Oil-Service Companies Set to Reveal War’s Impact on Earnings This week will offer the clearest picture yet of the Iran war’s impact on the world’s biggest oil field service providers, with the likes of SLB Ltd., Baker Hughes Co. and Halliburton Co. all expected to take hits to their bottom line. Halliburton is set to report a 2% drop in per-share profit when it kicks off the sector’s earnings season on Tuesday, according to average analyst estimates. Later in the week, SLB is seen reporting a 31% fall, which would be the biggest falloff since the last three months of 2020. And Baker Hughes is expected to follow Sunday with a 21% drop. Both SLB and Baker Hughes have higher exposure to the Middle East. (Bloomberg)

Oklahoma City has now acquired seven second-round picks this offseason, shed $224 million in payroll and tax and positioned themselves comfortably under the second apron via the trades of Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins. Rather than simply declining Dort's $17.7 million team option to save the money, the Thunder picked it up, acquired three future assets, created a $17M trade exception and place their 2025 championship stalwart in position for a new long-term deal in Atlanta which was not viable in OKC.

You can't even set most gym treadmills to the speed this guy just broke the MILE world record at. They max out around 12 to 14 mph. Josh Kerr held 16.2 mph for the entire mile today: 3:42.66, breaking a record that had survived 27 years. The pace on this new mile record is just wild. It works out to 13.8 seconds per 100 meters. Go sprint 100m all-out right now. If you're slower than 13.8, Kerr was moving faster than your sprint, and he did it 16 times in a row without stopping. In 1954, Roger Bannister ran the first four-minute mile, a barrier people once argued was the limit of human physiology. Put Bannister's race on the track next to Kerr's today, and Kerr finishes while Bannister is still 110 meters back, coming off the final bend. The man who lost the record, Hicham El Guerrouj, set it in 1999 with no pace lights and no super spikes. Beating him took 27 years of shoe technology plus a four-month engineering project Kerr named after the goal time itself. The margin: 0.47 seconds. And El Guerrouj isn't finished. His 1500m record, set the year before on the same track, turned 28 this week. Only three men since have even broken 3:27. One record fell today. The harder one is still standing.

US Oil Refiners Running at Max Capacity Nationwide, refiners have been running at or above the 95% utilization rate that’s widely regarded as full capacity for almost two months, government figures showed. In at least one region, the Rocky Mountains, fuelmakers have surpassed the 100% mark twice in the past few weeks, a pace that even the refining industry’s main lobbying group warns is untenable. Running near max capacity is “raising the likelihood that equipment failures tighten fuel supply and amplify price volatility,” Rapidan Energy analysts said. Several major refiners already have postponed maintenance to keep capacity online. Motiva Enterprises LLC delayed a turnaround at the biggest crude unit at its Port Arthur refinery in Texas by a year to the fall of 2027. Any major outage could have an outsized impact because domestic fuel stockpiles are unusually low. Inventories have been strained by robust demand for US diesel to replace production lost to the conflicts in Russia and the Persian Gulf, and a drop in gasoline imports to a 29-year seasonal low.
