Not sure who advised Odisha govt on scrapping the Bhubaneswar Metro project. City roads are already choked, buses are packed, and CRUT buses are carrying lakhs daily. Metro won’t come up overnight and it takes 10-15 years and multiple phases to deliver the real impact. That’s exactly why you start early, so the city is ready before congestion spirals out of control. Funds aren’t the issue. When lakhs of crores can be spent on freebies, why not invest tax payer’s money in long-term urban infrastructure? States like Uttar Pradesh have metro networks in 7 cities. Even Patna has one, and Visakhapatnam is getting there. Scrapping metro project in Bhubaneswar isn’t just short-sighted, it’s regressive and shows a lack of vision for the future.
