My son, Canon, was born early at 25 weeks and lived for 5 weeks through various crushing challenges. We were told at the 30 week mark that we were going to be able to take him home, that his health was in great shape. He died three days later. God was with us the whole time.

Go watch a child die of cancer and then tell me about how an omnipotent God was there with them the whole time. I don’t know how adults believe this nonsense.

He just cited a historic and precise quote from a well regarded Reformed theologian. Now have his opponent quote Calvin out of context with no citation, and then act like Piper is the ultimate authority on Reformed theology.

@LGBrun @PaoloGerrini @ThoughtfulSaint God doesn’t weave sin into any creature. We choose to rebel against him. Another distinction without a difference. I’d say you have a far larger philosophical problem to wrestle with than I do. Under Calvinism, God loses none of His children. In LDS thought he loses over 1/3.

@ThatGoldenChain @PaoloGerrini @ThoughtfulSaint I think the difference is you would say God created us from nothing, which I would say made it His choice to create people in a way that explicitly leads them away from Him. LDS belief is that our intelligence was not created by God, thus God is not responsible for our choices.

People keep telling me I have misrepresented Calvinism. Please let me know what specifically I misrepresented?

@LGBrun @PaoloGerrini @ThoughtfulSaint You are trying really hard to make a distinction where there isn’t one. You and I both believe that God took specific actions to form people who would ultimately perish. Unless you’re going to go the route of the open theist heresy your criticism means nothing.

@ThatGoldenChain @PaoloGerrini @ThoughtfulSaint That's justice at that point. We already existed, and we made our choices. He offered the same to all who would choose to follow Him. If we're created from nothing, however, then God chose to make some of us in such a way that we couldn't reach heaven.

@ThatGoldenChain @PaoloGerrini @ThoughtfulSaint I don't agree with that conclusion. LDS theology is that our essences always existed, freedom to choose is essential, and we opted-in to life on Earth. Open theism or not, our choices aren't on God, as he didn't force us into creation. Hence the 1/3 that chose not to follow God.

@PaoloGerrini @ThoughtfulSaint Romans 3 does not have an Anne Frank clause. I also don’t know where she is. You can dislike man’s nature but you can’t deny it from the Bible. You have to wrestle with whether you want the truth or to be comfortable in your errors.

@ThatGoldenChain @ThoughtfulSaint So you think Anne Frank made 'a genuine choice' to reject Jesus before she was murdered at 15 in Bergen Belsen, and you feel it is 'just' that she gets to burn in Hell for eternity because of that? Dude this is so messed up by any moral standard, and not even biblical.

@PTSPentax @ThoughtfulSaint 4/4 God doing something as being just for the sake of the fact that He did it is *absolutely* solid reasoning. God is the standard of righteousness. He IS righteousness.

@PTSPentax @ThoughtfulSaint 3/ The biggest hermeneutical problem my LDS friends have is you bring your philosophy to the scripture and demand that they bow to it. Your philosophy should be derived from Scripture, not vice versa.

@ch00ch33 @PaoloGerrini @ThoughtfulSaint That’s what the enemies of God do in my worldview. God saves ALL of His children according to the Bible (Romans 8). He will let none perish because He is a loving and powerful Father. You don’t believe that. That’s a MASSIVE philosophical problem.

@ThatGoldenChain @PaoloGerrini @ThoughtfulSaint But God created them to be His enemies, right? Since they were created from nothing, He made them such, knowing they would be His enemies. The lost 1/3 is tragic, but because their essence is eternal, it was not God that caused them to choose that. It was their own choice.
