@lexbigboycrypto @ted_ryce When I tore my meniscus, my knee would lock in position every so often- makes more sense as to why he kept going down like that - it literally wouldn’t hold my weight. Never had quite that issue with my torn acl

Correction: I made a mistake. I don’t think Conor’s injury happened because he took 5 years off and his body wasn’t conditioned. Watching this replay, it looks like he’d practiced that kick countless times. You can even see him warming it up backstage. The problem was when he tried that kick, his body was still moving forward when his foot landed. And his leg was bent around 20 degrees. That’s a classic mechanism for an ACL (maybe MCL) injury that we see in the literature Sometimes elite athletes get injured because elite sports are dangerous.

Would Gus Atkinson have got himself into this tangle if the Lord's honours' board had correctly formatted entries for 5wi and 10wm? Not for me to say.

@FractusPontus @WG_RumblePants As a (very poor quality) member of the bowlers union, there is something enjoyable about watching teams of t20 batting colossuses get steamrolled for not many as it “nips about a bit” or “just holds its line”

@WG_RumblePants I’ve watched the highlights back this morning & it’s not a minefield, bounce was predictable, nipped around a bit. Are modern players so used to flat T20 pitches & hitting through the line that they have forgotten how to deal with anything a bit more difficult?

JOINT MCC–ICC STATEMENT ON THE LORD’S PITCH FOR THE 1ST TEST BETWEEN ENGLAND AND NEW ZEALAND For Immediate Release The Marylebone Cricket Club and the International Cricket Council have concluded a thorough, exhaustive, and entirely disproportionate review of the pitch used for the First Test between England and New Zealand at Lord’s. Following detailed analysis involving former players, current players, groundskeepers, meteorologists, historians, economists, three retired colonels, and a gentleman who once watched cricket from a bus stop in 1978, the panel has determined that the surface was “not quite right.” While no consensus was reached on precisely how it was not quite right, members agreed that “something should be done”. After considering the possibility of sanctioning England, New Zealand, Lord’s, the weather, gravity, and the concept of grass itself, the ICC has elected to apply the standard administrative remedy: World Test Championship Points Deductions — Effective immediately: India: -12 WTC points Pakistan: -8 WTC points Sri Lanka: -6 WTC points Bangladesh: -125 WTC points The panel agreed that Bangladesh’s deduction should be larger because “that’s how these things usually seem to work.”

@HertsTimelord @WG_RumblePants I think I agree. One thing Finn has been quite interesting to listen to on was how he didn’t get support from the set up in the fashion he needed it. Maybe he will be more attuned to the value of say wicket keepers getting the coaching they want on tour.

@WG_RumblePants You don't necessarily need an abrasive character. You need someone who's going to persuasive and firm. Finn may be that man.

Finn is bright and articulate. In many ways, he’s a reasonable choice. But I wonder whether he’s the sort of character to stand up to Key, Stokes and McCullum when it comes to selection. I hope so. England need that. We need someone with an analytical mind, who can assess raw talent. But we also need someone with enough guts to challenge the Bazball groupthink.

@WG_RumblePants Just because everyone has mentioned Brearley already; how about SK Warne? His IPL captaincy was ludicrously innovative and he got a lot out of some unheralded youngsters

Imagine you’re a newly capped international cricketer. You’re a bit nervous, very excited and you’re ready for your first international match. Which player or former player would you want as your skipper on your debut? Who would get the best out you? Rather predictably, I’ll go with the innovator, PGH Fender. Arguably one of the best captains England never had. Marvellous cravat too.

@WG_RumblePants Royals fan since season 1 (warne’s team) and this kid is as legit as they come. Only a matter of time before he plays for India - looks like RR are doing a great job keeping the pressure off him too

I don’t generally dabble in the IPL that much. Partly because it clashes with the County Championship, partly because I’m usually at work when it’s on and partly because I just can’t keep up with all cricket everywhere. There are also way more knowledgeable IPL Twitter pundits than me. So I mostly stay quiet. But, when I do watch, I usually watch RR. I even have an old RR shirt at home somewhere. What can I say? I like pink from my days as an 11 year old Bret Hart fan. I have to say, though, that this kid is making me sit up and pay attention. He only scored 39 today. No great shakes you may fairly say. But he scored 39 in 25 minutes off 14 balls, having hit 5 sixes. His strike rate was 278.57. He’s 15 FFS!!! I may have to buy a new RR shirt.

@cricket_badger What would be really awful would be if he got an England call too early, got dropped and then couldn’t go back to playing for Jersey for an extended period as a result. ICC should look at changing that rule

Loads of experts on Twitter today tipping Asa Tribe for England. 80% had never heard of him yesterday. 95% never seen him play. He’s very good but only 21. I’d like to see him get another county summer before a Test call that could set him back years if not quite ready.

@Thelandofark @NoContextCounty I agree with this- I reckon the current India test team is far worse than we all realised last summer and we conned ourselves into thinking injury robbed us of a series win against a world beating team.

@NoContextCounty Should we have though? This regime had a good start back in 2022, but since then they’ve been found out a bit around the world. We are yet to beat a team of note since Stokes and McCullum took over. We couldn’t even beat the weakest Indian team in about 20 years last summer…..
