Except he’s not being honest. He’s covering up. Did he answer why he charged his mind? Has he shown any recognition of how damaging the assertion that men can be women is? Has he addressed the underlying *massive* sexism to even say something so utterly absurd? Has he addressed the trust issue? Has he - apologised authentically? Has he actually changed his mind or is he saying whatever is expedient politically at the time? These are hugely important questions of integrity. I changed my mind. I actually thought some men had female brains but even I didn’t ever think women could have a penis. I thought that womanhood had to be… medically delivered (and I cringe with embarrassed saying that). I also spent plenty of time reflecting on and analysing my own underlying sexism that could have allowed that incorrect belief to take hold in the first place. And I still do not require or expect thanks for doing all that. What I object to though is a pattern of men - and honestly it’s men who get this treatment, often but not exclusively from other men - ending up with a circle of people all defending them and telling people (usually telling women) to be kind, go easy, don’t go on at him - for doing the absolute minimum - the ABSOLUTE minimum of finally *and under duress* stating that no, women don’t have penises. The red carpet is rolled out. The thanks come in. Maybe we should send him flowers and give him a knighthood? 🙄 - while women *rightfully* pointing out this is not some damascene conversion and that at no point has he addressed his own lack of integrity and/or massive sexism to even say such an absurd thing in the first place are once again told off and scolded. Whereas, actually these people finding out just how hurtful and damaging their idiotic proclamations and pandering to genderism actually are, is a necessary part of actually understanding how we got in this mess to start with. It’s extremely frustrating to see tone policing again in this context given the level of absurdity and insult in agreeing women can have penises. 😒
