Speaking to ANI, he says, "I am from a small village in Rudraprayag... I did not know much till the 12th standard. There is not much awareness in hilly areas. I did not know that something like IITs even exists. I did not take the entrance exam after completing the 12th grade. But then I got to know through teachers that I could pursue a Master's degree from IIT. My teachers and friends supported me and motivated me a lot... I started my preparation in July last year because I was unable to study in June, when the Kedarnath yatra was taking place. I used to take travellers from Gaurikund on horses and mules... My motivation was to move on from this place, this line of work... People are delighted that I cracked the exam. Many people have called me to congratulate..."
