Age of Ultron foreshadowed him with Tony’s vision of a brutally lost battle in the future, which is what influenced his action in AoU and Civil War. Infinity stones were being introduced all throughout the movies with GOTG 2014 fully explaining what they are. Thanos was quite literally a shadow over the MCU for six years until his own movie.
