In partnership with the country’s premier university, the University of the Philippines (@upsystem), we trained the IT leads of UP campuses nationwide at our newly-inaugurated Converge Data Center in Angeles City, Pampanga. This initiative concretized the collaboration between our two institutions under the memorandum of understanding we signed last year. I’m a strong proponent of the “Dig Once” policy, which is reinforced by the Konektadong Pinoy Act, for its advantages for service providers, local governments, and cities as a whole. The development of an underground conduit network in Makati is highly appreciated and we always welcome collaborations for such initiatives. For electric repairs, you don't have to wait for permission to restore power, same when there are major pipe leakages. They can fix it immediately. Unfortunately, it’s different for ISPs. But with underground conduits, cables are less susceptible to cuts and damages so that means more reliable and consistent connectivity for customers. At Converge, we believe in #TechForGood. Building our presence in Bicol took us some time, since we came all the way from Pasig. We incorporated a lot of redundancy to protect our customers against incidents and fiber cuts. We've enhanced our network's durability to ensure all nodes are secure. We’re building infrastructure in places that need it most, and we are making sure that people in towns like Irosin and Tabaco get the same opportunities as those in big cities. That’s what we are doing now because I want to ensure that every household has access to reliable connectivity, including those in remote barangays, islands, and mountainous areas. We're committed to expanding access to homes across the entire Bicol region, including Legazpi, Naga, Camarines, and Masbate.

This milestone is more than a technological achievement — it’s a national enabler. With this critical infrastructure in place, we are not only enabling digital transformation but also creating new trade pathways and opportunities for the Philippines. We are also optimistic on seeing fruitful returns on this significant investment. Since we’ve announced this project, we’ve seen overwhelming demand from carriers and internet service providers seeking to purchase capacity. Once the 20,000-km Bifrost Cable System lights up, Converge, as the exclusive Philippine partner owning the international cable landing station in Davao, is not just enhancing connectivity — we’re asserting the Philippines' role as a critical digital gateway between Asia and the world. Last Tuesday, I had the privilege of meeting the bright and tech-savvy science students of Angeles City Science High School and Dr. Clemente N. Dayrit Elementary School (CLEMENDES). Their energy, curiosity, and dreams reminded me of how I started with nothing but determination. Today’s young people are very lucky. They have tools, technologies, and information I could only dream of at their age. With AI, data research, and real-time access to knowledge across industries, these students are not just learning — they’re preparing to solve real-world problems. From climate resilience to national security, innovation will be at the heart of the next generation’s contributions. We need new scientists and innovators, and it starts by giving them real opportunities. Proud of these students from my hometown and grateful for the opportunity to give back by helping shape a future where no dream is too big and no talent goes unnoticed. With our Caloocan Data Center having been fully certified as Tier III, now both for design and for construction, we are on track to building a digital ecosystem that ensures the highest levels of reliability and security for our network.
