@SandyofCthulhu @ImmortalisDB Aliens makes Alien worse by nearly trivializing the perfect organism. Alien by itself is far better than Aliens could have ever been on it's own. And it's not even close.

@ImmortalisDB Sure: Alien would still be recognized as a great film if Aliens has never appeared. Aliens wouldn’t exist if Alien had never appeared.

@SandyofCthulhu I've been running with: Does the experience justify the trap? People want to be scared in a horror game - and to present them with unfair odds is in itself fair game. Not too often, but it can be incredibly memorable.

When id Software published Wolfenstein 3D (before my time), the way to find the secrets was to walk all around the level, bumping into every wall. When I joined id Software, John Romero told me that Doom would be different. One of the fundamental rules was that EVERY secret in Doom had to have a hint. The wall might have a different texture, or be offset. Or something. Looking back, John didn't always follow his own rule, but I did. One of my favorite secrets was only visible on the minimap, where I hid an arrow pointing directly at the secret door. The arrow wasn't visible in the real world. You can see it below. Partly because of John's rule, I feel that no trap in any game, even a tabletop roleplaying game like Call of Cthulhu or D&D, should just go POP! and surprise the players. There ought always be a clue. Maybe the deadly door handle is shaped like a cobra head. Maybe there is green liquid dripping from the chest's lock. Maybe the super valuable treasure is atop a glowing pedestal with no obvious wards or barriers (I've used this one a lot).

@SandyofCthulhu Dr.Frankenstien destroyed the monster's bride to be, out of repulsion. It was a fit cruelty - not sanity. The line of thinking was him rationalizing his emotions, not a duty done for human kind. Grasping at straws - since could have left the reproductive organs out.

Frankenstein In the original novel, the female monster is never completed. Instead, Dr. Frankenstein, in a fit of sanity, destroys it; while the monster peers in through a window. The doctor's reason for his actions is that if the monsters can reproduce, they'll outcompete us, and replace humanity. Now, modern genetic theory might say the monster's kids would be normal humans, because they'd just be whatever their gonads produced. But Dr. Frankenstein is before Mendelian theory so didn't knjow that. On the other hand, it's possible that the chemicals and lightning and all that stuff would affect the monster children in some way, making them monstrous as well, even though they wouldn't be assembled from dead chunks. What is your theory?

@WormsTeam17 Could you add custom lobbies to Worms Rumble? I have a bachelors LAN party in like 2 weeks and we were hoping to add this to the roster.

@TheGoblinWorks So, I'm not too familiar with this, but did someone say Accursed Farm Ross, was a fraud? And their argument in favor of GaaS was "it saves them a few days of work and you don't get to own the product you bought."

If you are using AI to make your own little thing for yourself to enjoy, I get it. But there is a development in taste that has already happened, and you ought not be disappointed or surprised when the AI generation you lovingly ordered is called slop, and drives people away.

This is why games like Halo: Combat Evolved, Shadow of the Colossus, Gears of War, Final Fantasy, and Riven: The Sequel to Myst, all hit so hard. Those were talented artists first. Not concept artists making miscellaneous "good designs" by committee.

@z1xxmgddjyx50px @JoshStrifeHayes Players will make things easier any way they can. They "help" each other out. Wiki's, Icyviens, Recount.. RMT... I mean that's the ecosystem that WoW leaned into as the development team accepted these changes like a open source Ship of Theseus. Both of our opinions seem true.

@z1xxmgddjyx50px @JoshStrifeHayes We could get into the weeds very quickly here.. I can agree that developers can and do have outside pressure to make something financially viable. Lack of vision is especially potent here. Same with tech limitations, and crunch. But these are not mutually exclusive.

@JoshStrifeHayes Final thoughts.. Cheat codes are fun. But for an mmorpg, man it deteriorates the game one QoL-addon-folded-into-official-design at a time. It's not wrong to enjoy it, nor is it upto you to resist or not employ any QoL addon. This falls on Blizzard for letting it exist

@JoshStrifeHayes Imo, don't let players take control of the design of the game. Players are not game designers. Sure it's an indication of wanting to maximize efficiency of their time, and trivialize challenge. Back in the day, it was called cheat codes. Not great for an mMoRPG.
