Yupppp 💯 As we head to the polls for the local govt election later this year we should all remember this one singular principle: Viral on twitter or tiktok doesn’t = votes at the ballot box. Ground game. Ground game. Ground game. Ground game. Hit the streets. Knock doors. Shake hands. Organise. That’s how elections are won.
Tessa Dooms@Tessa_Dooms

The mistake people are making about the Zille campaign is assuming that the online campaign is all there is. The DA knows better than to think they can win wards simply on Tiktok. It's like Mamdani. He's online amplified his 100 000 volunteer ground campaign, not replaced it.

Back in '24, @McKinsey published a great report on the Chief of Staff role called 'The Anatomy of the Chief of Staff Role' - here's a link: mckinsey.com/featured-insig…. Even though I've been to the CoS rodeo a few times now, I still found some incredibly useful insights in it. (*I still have it pinned in my bookmarks tab for reference). For me, its always been about co-leading strategy, providing advice, and having tenacious commitment to driving the implementation of a corporate/political agenda.
Michael J. Miraflor@michaelmiraflor

There are people with the title Chief of Staff that are basically just calendar organizers. There are also people with the title Chief of Staff who are essentially the most qualified people to take over a business should the CEO step down. Because they know every detail. Such an unpredictable title.

“Pivot towards pragmatism” is an ethos I can absolutely get behind. We’re staring down low economic growth, high unemployment, & an unsustainable cost of living battering the poor & working classes. We don’t have time for ideological debates or punditry that centres race & gender identity when people don’t have food on their tables. We need governments that deliver & political leaders who roll up their sleeves & get to work.

“The DA’s new top six leaders average 39 years old – 22 years younger than the ANC’s top seven. Analysts believe the party is evolving faster than its critics would have it.”
Currency@currencynewsza

The DA’s new leadership is younger, more diverse and openly ambitious. The party could be one to watch as it pivots towards pragmatism. Click the 🔗 for the full story from @VernonWessels. currencynews.co.za/the-da-just-go…

@suntoshpillay I didn’t say they’re only relevant iro poverty and joblessness either. Didn’t say policies, merit, or ideas aren’t impacted by race and gender either. 🤷‍♂️

@TheGrantC It is perhaps more regressive to only worry about race & gender insofar as they are linked to poverty and joblessness. They are substantially important in their own right. We cannot focus on policies, ideas, and meritocracies, outside of its racialised & gendered worldviews.

I didn't say race and gender don't matter; these are interlinked with poverty and joblessness. Of course, in both the substance of policy and in the optics of politics, the messenger is often as important as the message. What I critiqued is the regressive focus on race and gender in SA politics - often above and before all else. Too little of our punditry is focused on how we grow the economy and lift people out of poverty. Too much of it is focused on the optics of the race and gender dynamics in our political leadership.
Suntosh Pillay@suntoshpillay

@TheGrantC Identities matter, Grant. Symbolically and substantively. Especially in politics.

My least favourite thing about South Africa is how we have an expanded youth unemployment rate of over 60% and a poverty headcount at nearly 30% but pundits and political debates are centred on... *checks notes*... the race and gender of political leaders. Not what party has the best policies to grow the economy. Not what party has the best track record for creating jobs. Not what party delivers infrastructure projects. Not what party has expanded social services to the most vulnerable. It's so regressive. It's so dangerous for our democracy. It's a bright neon signpost of just how utterly immature and basic South African punditry and politics can be.
Suntosh Pillay@suntoshpillay

The DA top 10 vs. the ANC top 7. Both parties seem to suffer from diversity & inclusion issues, perhaps in different directions.

An excellent resolution from Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, @AlexAbrahamsRSA at the @Our_DA Congress 2026. An economy cannot grow while the vulnerability of women and children is ignored. Legalising safe baby savers is about protecting life, preserving dignity, and building social conditions in which more women can participate fully in society & the economy.

[WATCH] The DA Federal Congress has passed a policy resolution aimed at legalising ‘Baby Savers.’ The proposal was put forward by Alexandra Abrahams. Abrahams spoke to EWN about the importance of legalising alternative, safe baby abandonment sites. TCG #DACongress2026

When other stations were out of range, SA kept the Artemis II astronauts talking to Mission Control. SA National Space Agency (SANSA) played a critical role in NASA’s Artemis II mission! Our Hartebeesthoek Ground Station provided vital tracking and telemetry as the Orion spacecraft looped the Moon—keeping humanity’s first lunar crew in over 50 years connected to Earth. Our specialized antennas and "hydrogen maser" atomic clocks, provided the extreme accuracy needed for Doppler measurements. 🌕👨‍🚀
