What if game studios and publishers stopped building silos and actually started working together to give power to the players and allow NFTs to be taken across games? It doesn't have to be the same assets (IP issues). Just make the NFT useable in multiple games. Power to the player!

The Actual Benefits of being a Web3 Game. TL:DR If the core benefit of Web3 is touted to be tradable in-game assets as NFTs, the game needs to be a 'forever game'. Anything less than, you're just making a sales pitch. *** One of the more frustrating and annoying parts of being on Web3 gaming twitter the last 4 years has been that all benefits of Web3 Gaming have been reduced to superficial sale pitches. The points made are easily brushed aside by web3 haters, because they are based on a need to confirm one's bag bias. We sound like idiot cultists and it looks like it too when you go through your feed or look at your replies. "Look at CS's marketplace, see it can work" "All we need is less friction" "Just hide the blockchain side" Followed by: "It's so easy!" If it were so easy, you don't think it wouldn't have been integrated by the big publishers and studios already? That's the issue with talking about innovation from an investment sales pitch perspective, the easiest most obvious narrative wins the mindshare, but in practice, its just self delusional lies to convince you that it can work and make a return. *** For instance: Say NFTs as in-game assets have the functionality to be eternally tradable like baseball or Pokémon cards, what is that context for it to actually have volume and be valuable? Well the game has to be a hit game and the game has to be a forever game. A hit game so people want to hold and collect those NFTs. A forever game, so the NFTs still have the utility to play or be relevant because the game is still growing as an IP. Ok, so we are all in the business of making a hit game, but even with a hit PC game, how long do you think the game lives for after it is released? Other than the top 10 PC games of all time, maybe 4 years with DLC. Past that, its unprofitable to keep developing and supporting the game. For mobile games? Within 3 years more than 80% of mobile games are abandoned by their publishers with no further updates or marketing spend for new users. So if you have NFTs in your web3 game, even if you're not a hit game, you need to be designed as a forever game. *** This may mean you're like Eve Online with a dedicated player base (150k-300k daily) that seems small relative to other hit games (LOL 20-30M, Fortnite 60M average daily), but has been around for 22 years. But games like DOTA2, LOL, WOW, COD, Fortnite, GTA - these are the absolute best of the best of video games, even dominating over the best of the best attempts by their competitors with HUNDREDS of millions of dollars per title invested to dethrone them. Using these games as an example why Web3 gaming has potential is a great sales pitch, but its like saying, because Tiger Woods did it, so can we, but we can do it even better. 🤣They are the exceptions for a reason. If web3 gaming is serious about the NFT being a core benefit of the game, it must be designed -not only as a hit game, but a forever game. Otherwise, the ENTIRE POINT about player ownership is ABSOLUTELY BS. It DOESN'T MATTER how polished the game is, or hyped the game is at launch, if it can't be a forever game. If it's not then its the most expensive slow rug ever in crypto. *** So how do you at least design for a forever game? I refer you to this podcast, by game craft youtube.com/watch?v=LOXOu-… It's a good foundation. As a game designer, I don't look at recent hits, I look at games like chess and poker which have been around for over a hundred years to a thousand (wow eh?). The foundation to get to perfect balanced gameplay is our first principles for design to even have a chance to be a game that lasts more than 4 years and can evolve from there. It is as clear as day to me, so I love when we get criticism that our game isn't very polished. Polish can come with time, the foundations for enduring gameplay can't if it wasn't design for it in the first place. (If you ask why not do both, please talk with all the studios that have closed because they ran out of cash). I know, in 5 years time, we will still be evolving our game while the salesmen of web3 will have imploded (as the majority of the gamefi funds from 2021 have). 5 more years after launch is not a sexy sales investment pitch, but I've never been building for sexiness or quick gains, I've been building for the gamer in me and in respect to do my damnest to make a forever game where web3 actually shines for our players. And that for me is the real win condition. Thank you for coming to my Web3 Game Founder TED talk.

@SinjinMAYG We need to use web3 like a tech, not a reason. If I use MongoDB for the backend, I don't market it as a MongoDB game. Your move to EOG is awesome and makes total sense. Kudos!

I've never shied away with having web3 define our game. But in taking our game into web2 as a web3 game, it's clear that the knee-jerk stigma is too much to overcome. I've decided to instead reframe our game as an 'open economy game', OEG. So instead of outright hate, we will confuse them first, then get a diffused reaction of hate 😅

@mizzysworld Holy shit! Well said! Same for having web3 devs. Make sure they understand more than just how to write a function and deploy a contract. Grill them on web3 fundamentals. The bullshit I've seen deployed...ugh!

Every gaming project needs at least one real crypto native on the squad. someone who actually lives this shit. who understands block size, minting from contract, scanning chains. who knows LPs, bridging risk, slippage traps, multichain arbs. at leas the difference between a dex and a front end swap aggregator lol someone who’s been through yield farms, rug seasons, gas wars, curve wars, ohm wars. Who’s seen enough tokenomics to know when something is off. web3 isn't just tech, it's a language. & too many people out here speaking the wrong dialect. either put in the hours, or bring in someone who’s fluent.

First, thank you for standing with us through one of the most intense and emotionally charged moments we’ve ever faced. Today, the launch of $OOO happened and we can be clear that it did not go as we anticipated. We launched $OOO in a way that aligned with our values: – 100% transparent. – No insider advantage. – No unfair unlocks. – No stealth VC exits. Just community, utility, and product. We did it the hard way because we believe in building something that lasts. We originally added 25% of the public presale in liquidity, a total of $50k. We reserved other funds for doing user acquisition and running the company. Due to the sheer amount of sell pressure from our high float token, the token price fell agressively in the short term. That's a fact. Although we can not influence what happens in the market, we understand that this affected many in our community and we are going to give it our all to drive back value to the token. The real value is in what we’ve built and what we continue to deliver. Battle Derby is live. Fail Cars is next. We will continue to execute our plan: – Organic growth. – Aggressive token burns. – Buybacks using real revenue. – Building products people want to play and hold. We also understand that some early investors may be disappointed. That’s fair. We’re not going anywhere. We’re just getting started.

@onefatirishdad1 @WARPChain_ It allows dipping your toe into web3 without breaking your existing game or alienating your existing web2 players. It turns web3 into a beneficial part of the tech, rather than the entire reason for the game to exist.

Absolutely! Education > hype. @blockchaingmg you nailed it! @EVE_Frontier is showing how Web3 can be integrated meaningfully when the tech serves the game, not the other way around.👇
jon jordan@blockchaingmg

I have to say that @CCPGames is doing an excellent job of educating sceptical game journalists that blockchain is "just another tech" in @EVE_Frontier. First PC Gamer and now IGN. A shame other web3 game devs haven't take the time and effort... ign.com/articles/eve-f…

I've been saying this for years. I'd certainly take the time and effort to talk to journalists, but they won't take my calls. I've been on countless spaces preaching this. I've built a complete system the takes all the web3 tech part out of the game and makes it seamless. @WARPChain_

The work is spotty. Im currently looking for paying gigs. 35+ yrs dev w/ 7 yrs in crypto. Thousands of contracts deployed. Seems a lot of projects just dont have $$. A lot of liquidity drained from the market. Started making tech videos. DM if you have a project and a budget and need sr. level dev.

Crypto is going through a talent crisis I had a call with one of the top CMOs in the space recently. A lot of their marketing friends (startup and legacy web2 companies) won’t touch crypto roles currently. Even the curiosity from tradfi folks currently feels down, yet the appetite for institutional roles from projects is consistently growing. We also spoke about the reduced inflow of web2 talent into the space, and agreed it’s down drastically compared to previous cycles/years. The effects of this are probably more obvious on the developer side. It’s no secret that we have to improve as an industry when it comes to developer acquisition (~10,000 active devs currently) and retention. While dev tooling has come a long way in recent years, certain friction points such as dev exp and developer activations need some love and attention. On top of all this, there has definitely been an outflow of great talent leaving to AI, healthcare, biotech or other startups. This is not a bear post btw, I remain incredibly bullish long-term. I think this 'talent migration' is more so temporary and likely due to structural reasons than anything else. M&A season is upon us, see Bridge and Privy deals, (i've also heard multiple more big acquisitions are in the works, which we might see materialize before the end of year) and over the next few years, I think we’ll see a healthy consolidation across the landscape. I’m just curious if others are seeing/feeling similar?

@Parkk___ Would love to dig into this. Send/receive is part of the goal. If there's still the ability for someone else to take away the asset, change the asset without your permission, or limit what you can do with it, then just send/receive is not enough. Ownership matters.

Hot Take It was never about owning assets; It’s always been about transferring assets. Send <> Receive Gamers don’t care about owning their assets, but they do care about sending/receiving their assets.
