Mom passed early this morning. She was surrounded by family all week while at home in hospice. She was so loved and admired by us all. She'll be missed, but she is no longer in pain and is walking with the Lord now. I thank God for the extra time we got. Love you forever Mom.

I mean, I hope adding four weeks to the theatrical window makes a difference for the entire food chain involved. Because I love going to movies. But the long-term question is whether or not the YouTube generation “values” that big-budget experience anymore…

And it all has to do with the fact that Hollywood is able to squeeze fewer dollars out of a single movie (or TV show) during its lifetime than in the past. The juice, as they say, isn’t worth the squeeze like it was as recently as a decade ago.

The issue isn’t the length of the theatrical run. It’s the length of time between that and when it’s available on home video. In the 80s & 90s, you waited 6+ months for a VHS release, then 12 more months for cable TV. A few more weeks won’t really change the dynamic…
