Interesting. It is said that the K2 tank, Pegasus short-range air defense missile system, and Biho SPAAG will be equipped with dedicated drone jammers. (We covered this), and a major improvement project for the Biho is planned. The active sensor, radar, will be applied with ultra-high density GaN transistors and lightweight ultra-high power AESA radar array technology, and the passive sensors will also be applied with the latest technology. It is said that they will also enter the Indian Army's SPAD-GMS program. Meanwhile, the Biho-II program is not urgent. South Korea is focusing on the development and mass production of CIWS-II, Intelligent 40mm Air Defense System, M-SAM-II, M-SAM-III, LAMD, LAMD-II, L-SAM, and L-SAM-II. And.. naval L-SAM. As the U.S. commercial space industry grows, adversaries are targeting this sector to acquire vital technologies and expertise. U.S. space firms, small & large, face a range of legal, quasi-legal, and illegal attack vectors. For mitigation steps, see: dni.gov/files/NCSC/doc…

A laser-electrostatic hybrid thruster, where laser ablation is used to produce 15 km/s ions, which are then further accelerated to 32 km/s by a pair of 500 Volt electrodes: jstage.jst.go.jp/article/tastj/… It's intended as a high efficiency micro-thruster for small satellites.

This is an important reminder about the critical role of ground systems across the world for space operations. I recently wrote a chapter for @AerospaceCorp on the politics of basing space infrastructure overseas from the Cold War to day (link in comment) spacenews.com/anduril-secure…

The F-35, when you dig into a lot of "why did they make this choice when designing it", draws heavily from the F-16. I have often said, jokingly, that Fort Worth really set out to make a stealthy F-16 with internal weapons bays and the F-35 is what came out of that.

Best KF-21 maneuvering footage. So the Peru decided to produce parts for KF-21 fighter jets? Kinda surprising because the news reported that Peru had previously excluded the KF-21 and selected F-16V Block-70, Rafale F4, and JAS 39 Griffen as candidates to replace MiG-29. They expect to buy 22 units so far. It is true that a recent large-scale contract with Peru was surprising. Meanwhile, cooperation with the Indonesian government has not progressed significantly so far. The last news is that the Indonesian government request from the Korean government to reduce the amount of KF-21 (KFX, IFX) program development cost and technology transfer by a third. What about the Philippines, UAE, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia? Time will tell.

It is strange that my analysis of the 2024 US Nuclear Employment Strategy (👇) is still one of the only long(ish)-form analyses out there. One would think that an official US gov document explaining how it thinks about employing nukes (!!!) would get more attention.
Matt Costlow@Matt_Costlow

Update: the 2024 U.S. Nuclear Employment Strategy has been published: media.defense.gov/2024/Nov/15/20… Here is the 2020 version: esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Doc… And here is my analysis. A thread on an important document 👇 1/n

Beginning to understand why so many Americans are obsessed with trans issues and panicking about being replaced. They think there are 21x more trans people, 27x more muslims, 15x more jews, 5x more asians, 3x more black people, and 2x more immigrants than there actually are.

Excited to have this in the hands of the public soon. Turning the proofs back into the publisher, it's been a long time coming. It's the first English language book to ever examine battles from the War of Polish Succession in any tactical detail. I argue starting there gives us a slightly different understanding of the norms of eighteenth-century infantry battle than the usual focus, which sees the War of Austrian Succession and Mollwitz as the starting place for history of battle in the last period of the Old Regime before the French Revolution.

Researchers discover a new category of 'Ceres-like' asteroids, large, porous and dark, that formed in the outer solar system by were then implanted into the asteroid belt by the migration of our gas giants: nature.com/articles/s4155… They'd be full of ice and easy to dig into.

TANK ON TANK: @Trotes936897 posts this video of a Leopard 2A4 tank in taking out a Russian tank. The Leopard engaged a convoy of vehicles with two tanks in front. This is the first time in this war a Western tank has killed a Russian MBT.
