@studyrachy It varies between impossible and hard (depending on a lot of parameters such as the languages you already speak, the target languages, your level in each one of them, and the time you can dedicate to language learning)

Don’t listen to fake lazy polyglots. Study grammar for at least one long session per week. Fight the hard concepts until you cry over the notebook.

@PolyglotZone This is the hard pill that lazy language learners don't wanna swallow: Pure immersion only works if the language is similar to one they already speak (and I bet they studied that one's grammar.)

@TheNerdOlive To make pure immersion work for me, it would have to be a western, preferably Romance language, where I have the edge with my English and Spanish, and would need to be at least 4 hours a day.

Toddlers don’t learn grammar because they can’t. Toddlers don’t practice writing early because they can’t. Toddlers rely solely on immersion cuz it’s all they can afford. You are an adult. Learn languages like an adult.

@PolyglotZone Studying grammar fastens pattern acquisition. Without it, pattern acquisition through immersion alone will take a lot of time, and it might take forever.

@TheNerdOlive I would say that thorough grammar study plus immersion is the best way to go, if you have the time. Grammar study is the base for me, with lots of reading and audio to add meat to the bones.

If you can’t study grammar…don’t call yourself a language enthusiast.

If the way schools teach grammar is inefficient, it doesn't mean that grammar is useless or unimportant. It simply means that the way schools teach grammar is inefficient.

Relying solely on listening to learn a language is the equivalent of only eating to build abs and defined back muscles. Worse, you might be feeding your brain junk content.

I'm testing something, don't mind me posting a lot about the same idea.

I'm so polyglot that I get jealous of people because they speak their native language fluently.

@adjouaspeaks I tested an AI detector on my own writing and it highlighted a lot of sentences as AI-generated. I also used a personalized GPT to write a long piece of content and the AI detector said it was 0% AI and 100% human🤣

These AI detectors are flawed and here is a perfect example: I sent this email a couple days ago to Flexiclasses about a Spanish class that I missed. I wrote this myself, no ChatGPT or any other tool, this is my writing. I wanted to test this AI detector and here’s the result:

@Shau7_ Watching content is great for listening but it won't help you speak the language if you don't practice "speaking".

@Shau7_ Duolingo is useless no matter how much time you invest.
