My Truth About Rugby. Over the past 6 months I have spent 10 hours per day 7 days per week unpaid, researching and educating myself on the state of rugby across the world as a fan. Going beyond the call of duty as I launched urfans.org in Sept 2025 with the aim of uniting rugby fans across the world. The goals were simple. To activate a fan voice loud enough to achieve a seat on the board of every rugby union and World Rugby so that the very people who pay for our great game have a say in its future. The fans deserve a structured voice in the game. Over the 6 months I spoke directly to over 450 people via zoom. Rugby coaches, administrators, fans, players past and present at all levels including World Cups winners, I spoke to volunteers, marketing, experts,YouTubers and even CEO's of Leagues. I listened to everyone. I heard their views, their concerns and their dreams for our great game. I then reflected on what I have read, heard and been made aware of. The state of rugby across the world today mirrors very much what is happening across society in general. There is great division, a huge amount of politics, greed, ego and nationalism. Rugby today in my opinion is a very unhealthy ecosystem. I've now had enough of taking on hundreds of people's negativity about the game. Receiving messages by WhatsApp, emails and posts on a daily basis all complaining to me about the state of the game in their locality. Everyone has a view on what needs fixing, but the majority don't want to work fixing it. I knew that this would be part of the journey when I launched URF and was certainly not naive about it. I also knew I could choose to manage it in whatever way is best for me. What I didn't expect would happen was all of the toxic engagement would lead me to despising the sport I have loved my whole life. Thankfully due to a current medical situation I have been able to step back, and to heal myself from this toxicity and to once again reposition the sport of rugby in my life where I want it to be. My YouTube Channel Inside Rugby with Mark is my passion hobby and will continue to receive my priority of energy moving forward. Rugby needs some structural engineers to come in and make the systematic changes required to ensure that the participation rates are able to replenish the base fast enough to make the sport sustainable across the world. I now look forward to the Nations Championship competition and in once again embracing the beauty of the game and the fun side of it as much as I can. Fans First, Rugby Forever.
