In my life I have met thousands of transgender people. Many of them are some of the most thoughtful, creative and resilient people I know. Literally my favourite people. Like every community there are also a few difficult personalities, often people carrying a lot of pain or self-loathing who sometimes take that anger out on others. I could say this about gay and lesbian people too. But the reality is that most trans people are simply trying to live their lives with dignity and honesty. What I do struggle to understand is the level of hostility directed at them. When people insist that trans people are “confused” or “crazy” while ignoring the science, the history and the lived reality of millions of people, it starts to look less like confusion and more like prejudice. Maybe the real problem is not identity at all. Maybe your problem is hatred. It’s a mental illness

I get we gays on twitter act hornier than we actually are and there’s a green light to objectify everyone we see here, but the amount of bullying and abhorrent comments towards this guy for being overweight are absolutely reprehensible. A lot of people struggle or have struggled with their weight (myself included) and he did nothing to warrant the abuse. People are valuable and worth your consideration even if they aren’t “sexy enough.”

A reminder on this Trans day of visibility that Trans rights are human rights. If you want your own bodily autonomy respected and protected, you ought to protect that same right for all others. Because if you allow (or worse, encourage) the government to tread on one group, they WILL tread on you.

Gays need to start talking about the rampant meth use among their community. Grindr and Sniffies are chucked full of men using and asking me to use. Just last month in Phoenix several gay men were found dead in a trailer house from meth use 🤦🏻‍♂️
