Here's my thing about Tanner Engstrand: I didn't think he was the problem. There were some game management questions, which you can say about literally every play caller. But you saw, for the first time in a long time, innovation. The plays worked -- route concepts to set each other up. Pause on the QB's back step and players are open. The Jets just didn't have a QB who would pull the trigger. Thought stripping him of play calling after a year felt like rash decision-making. Moving on from him makes very little sense to me. But, maybe Aaron Glenn knows more than I do.

Wow: The #Jets have decided to fire Tanner Engstrand. This was not the original plan. Aaron Glenn was hoping to keep him on staff at a diminished role. That no longer the case.

Another DC candidate to add to the Jets list: Brian Duker. The Jets completed a virtual interview with the Dolphins pass game coordinator/secondary coach today.

It’s been three days since Martindale’s second interview … and no deal yet. That should tell you something. I wouldn’t sleep on Chris Harris, the interim. If he gets the job, it likely would mean Glenn being more involved in the D. Leonhard still lurking.

@Connor_J_Hughes Look up Frank Reich stats as a OC. He’s had 1 good season. “Big get” is a stretch.

Things are progressing between the #Jets & Frank Reich, per sources. We’ll see if New York can get it done. They’re trying. Would be a big get for Aaron Glenn’s offensive staff. Reich won a Super Bowl as OC of the Eagles (2016-2017), although Doug Pederson called plays. Served as head coach of Colts (2018-2022) and Panthers (2023). Was with Stanford the last two years. The Jets do not plan on firing Tanner Engstrand, but his role with team will change. Sources close to Engstrand told @snytv he does not expect to call plays in 2026, although he might maintain the “OC” title. Sources expect Reich to take over as play caller.

@Joerb31 I agree on Bain. You take BPA at 16 though. We have too many gaps in this roster to be knit picking. Sign another stop gap QB or give Malik Willis a 3 year deal. What’s the worst case? We suck & draft a QB next year. I think Malik is good enough to give him 2 years starting.
