Trust me, I want more Prince releases including more stuff from the vault. Yet, I'm not expecting nor demanding it all or alot of it over night. It takes time and the business has to be right. I definitely don't think some of these missed opportunities were done on purpose.

WB were straight up assholes to Prince in the 90 up until the end. Saying that all his albums needed to be renegotiated once they were remastered and they would retain the rights hence why he didn’t remaster his albums in the 90s. They also have no licensing to the song With This Tear so they lost out on a wonderful song to profit off

@sms130official Maybe because when Prince died he had a better relationship with WB. And WB were heavily involved up until 2021 with vault releases. Maybe they wanted to release it as the first release when Londell took over and said no

So from what I have just read on Prince.org @warnerrecords wanted to do a deluxe set for the piano and microphone shows and the @prince estate led by that numbskull @LondellMcMillan said no….Why in gods name would you say no??

As I said previously, I think they don’t want to work with WB anymore. Notice that the song With This Tear WB don’t have the rights even outside the US they don’t have any license to the track. Parade will probably have some vault tracks but not a whole lot. I think WB days of profiting off Prince are coming to an end soon.

@TheRealCJ1998 You could be right. It's still frustrating that of the very very little that has been promised e.g. a Parade set this year (as stated at last year's Celebration), even that doesn't seem assured because at any point they can just say they're still stuck renegotiating deals

I really don’t think the Prince Estate wants to work with Warner Bros any longer. Like I said before the song With This Tear was released under license to Legacy Recordings even outside of the States where WB still have global rights and the song was recorded when he was still with them. This upcoming vault album they’re working on will definitely be a collaboration with Sony and Warner Bros aren’t gonna see a single dime from it. IMO, I think this is karma for how WB treated Prince in the 90s.

I don’t think so anymore since With This Tear is under license to Sony/Legacy even outside the US. Also AOA and Plectrumelectrum are not even tied to WB anymore the rights were changed last month on March 21st. Almost all of Prince’s albums here in the US are licensed to Sony/Legacy except the soundtrack albums. The estate must’ve worked out something behind the scenes to make sure WB aren’t involved with Prince’s unreleased work.

It’s crazy that a year ago With This Tear leaked and now that it’s been officially released it’s gaining attention to the masses. It shows you that some songs work great by themselves and not buried under an expensive SDE

@DCO754 @TheRealCJ1998 @Baron3121 @MrMarinKnows For sure, I'm not saying there's never a reason to do an SDE. But we just have to be aware it's not always the right format, and isn't a flawless format either.

From Charles IG. Looks like With This Tear by Prince is one of the first songs from an upcoming vault album and honestly I’m not mad at this and I’ll let you know why: 1. There has been talk by a knowledgeable fan that the SDE concept is a flawed concept and was great years ago. Now it’s just ridiculous especially for someone of Prince’s caliber. 2. A vault series makes more sense plus an outtakes set will be a lot more cheaper than a half baked SDE. With an outtakes set, we could get different versions of songs something like a Version 1, 2, & 3. It makes more sense. 3. An outtakes set would be taken more seriously than an SDE. Everything was just crammed together. Some of these songs could do well on their own. There’s no reason why a good song like Open Book should be buried on the 2nd disc of vault tracks on the D&P SDE. In the end Prince literally has too much music to be crammed under a remastered album. With an outtakes set we could get jams, alternate versions, WIPs, finished songs all that. I think the Prince Estate are definitely moving away from the SDE concept and to me I think it’s for the best.

Sure some albums can have a SDE treatment. Someone told me that since they have access to the vault, they can take account recorded material that was truly intended for said album. Parade for example: we all know there’s some good stuff recorded in that era but some of it really doesn’t fit to be on it. Not everything during that era was recorded for Parade. With This Tear is a really great song but it really doesn’t fit the Symbol album so I’m glad it’s not being released on an SDE set.

@CaseyRain @TheRealCJ1998 @Baron3121 @MrMarinKnows I partially agree with you both. But since three albums have received that treatment, at the very least Purple Rain and Parare should too. My preferred format would simply be big, comprehensive chronological releases coupled with smaller ‘best of’ sets for each era.

Actually I’m pretty glad With This Tear by Prince didn’t make it on an SDE set. The song works very well on its own.
