It’s happening in many places like car and bike showrooms as well. The main issue is the MDR on high value products. The maximum MDR should be capped so that digital transactions increase.

Walked into a school-authorized book shop today to buy a set for kids… and saw this 👇
“2% charge on card payment”
Let that sink in.
This isn’t some small roadside vendor struggling with margins.
This is an authorized seller, already pricing books at a premium.
And yet — passing payment gateway charges to parents.
So basically:
You pay higher prices ✔️
You get zero flexibility ✔️
And you’re penalised for paying digitally ✔️
All while digital payments are being pushed everywhere.
Convenience fee?
More like forced fee.
Sad part — most people won’t even question it.
