The email does not address my query in the desired manner. My concern is not limited to the acceptance of a policy cancellation request during the free-look period for a particular individual—especially after considerable effort—but extends to why mis-selling continues unabated and why no action is being taken against the officials responsible. Why are loan customers being compelled to purchase insurance policies—particularly critical illness covers—when a term insurance policy may be more appropriate, if they choose to opt for insurance at all? Why are customers being offered the same plan without any proper assessment of their individual needs? Further, why are customers being forced to take loans from HDFC Bank to fund insurance premiums when they are capable of paying the premium themselves? On what basis is the bancassurance team of HDFC ERGO GIC compelling customers to avail of a loan product for this purpose? As someone who regularly raises mis-selling issues on behalf of individuals who approach me, I expect HDFC ERGO to take necessary action against those responsible and to put in place robust systems to prevent mis-selling and the forced sale of inappropriate insurance products. If required, I can share details of multiple such instances from the past three months where customers were compelled to purchase inappropriate insurance policies, forced to fund premiums through loans, and subsequently surrendered these policies during the free-look period. I can immediately provide at least 10 such policy references, with more to follow.
