Super Challenge Football - Atari 2600 (1982) This cartridge holds a special place in early console history as the direct Atari adaptation of the groundbreaking NFL Football cart for the Intellivision. Programmer Ken Smith developed both editions, successfully translating a complex playbook across rival hardware. #SuperChallengeFootball #Atari2600 #RetroGaming

@Matthew06230436 A lot more variance in the versions of this than I expected. C64 is very good for sure! I also enjoyed the SMS port.

@TheRetroSlayer They could never make this game work on any other machine other than the C64. Never really seemed as much fun.

@fredericschmitt Yes, still have a ways to go on DOS. But the games are slowly getting better.

@gordoslair They tried something new. Didn’t really work out that well but it’s a cool collectible!

@SongbirdPro I’ll have to try it on Lynx. I’m just surprised it plays so well on 2600.

Star Strike - Intellivision (1982) brought the silver screen space battles of the era straight into the living room. At a time when flat arcade ports dominated the market, this title delivered a pseudo-3D perspective that felt genuinely revolutionary. Players piloted a lone ship skimming over an alien superweapon, trying to time bomb drops perfectly into an exhaust trench while dodging aggressive enemy fire. The resulting sense of speed and the looming threat of planetary destruction created an atmosphere of pure sci-fi tension. The visual scaling and scrolling environments pushed early hardware to its absolute limits. By successfully translating the intensity of a blockbuster trench run into a home console cartridge, the developers proved that video games could be thrilling cinematic experiences. #StarStrike #Intellivision #RetroGaming

@level106 The bmx was so fast and smooth for 2600! They took good advantage of extra memory on cart with this one.

@TheRetroSlayer I had to check the comments, see if it was a fan-made modern retro-game. But nope! A real genuine 2600 commercial title! 😮 Very nicely done. Looks like they got the events well replicated. 🤔 I think that BMX one looks more fun than the C64 one. (Which I didn't like.) 😋

@mightyclaw There’s something to this one and I want to like it but I found it too brutally difficult for me.

@TheRetroSlayer Obvious Donkey Kong riff, but I always found it a little too oblique and reviewers at the time didn't seem to like it much. I've tried it since - even read the manual - and found it almost fun. Imagic proved that the Odys2 graphics could be better, but you can't prove that here.

This one was great. A good mix of RPG and platformer. Much more fun than WonderBoy since it had more to its gameplay with the magic and equipment upgrades. Then there were the secret doors and trivia from the Sphinx. Attempting the final labyrinth without the bell was less than enjoyable. 🙂

Kaboom - Atari 2600 (1981) A masked villain scurries across the top of the screen and drops a relentless rain of explosives. The only defense is a stack of three water buckets and lightning-fast reflexes. The magic of Kaboom relies entirely on the analog paddle controller. This unique peripheral transformed a simple concept into an intense test of precision and muscle memory. As the score climbs, the speed reaches a frantic, sweat-inducing blur that keeps players completely glued to the screen. Activision captured pure adrenaline inside a tiny plastic cartridge. These twitch-based mechanics laid the absolute groundwork for decades of fast-paced rhythm and reaction titles. The tight gameplay proved that minimalist design could create a heart-pounding experience without needing complex graphics or sprawling levels. The frantic rush of catching that very last bomb remains a brilliant masterclass in pure arcade tension. 💣 #Kaboom #Atari2600 #RetroGaming
