Bringing up seismic sense and lightning redirection like Korra loses automatically is funny because those are niche/specialized techniques, not overall bending mastery.
Aang having seismic sense doesn’t suddenly make him better at water, fire, or earth overall. meanwhile Korra is casually mixing elements, metalbending, spiritbending, and fighting modern high-level benders nonstop. Also blindfolded bending is literally because of seismic sense 😭 bro acting like Aang naturally evolved echolocation or something.

Korra took out 3 of the 4 and almost died fighting Zaheer, only taking him down with the help of like 12 airbenders.
If you remember Zuko, Sokka, Tenzin, and Tarlock (I think cause he betrayed the red lotus last minute) took down the Red Lotus in their original attempt to kidnap Korra.
Tenzin being taught by Aang, and Tarlock likely being of similar strength to Katara as a waterbender pretty much shows that yes- Aang's team could have likely handled Red Lotus, even if they didn't have Aang anymore.

Pretty sure combustion bending was always supposed to be a cool mysterious ritualistic thing that takes away your fire bending in exchange for combustion bending, but the writers of Korra just stupid. Combustion bending said something silently really well, showing off that the fire nation is a place with the resources and amoral philosophy to twist bending in that manner. Other nations take a shitload of pride in their bending, meanwhile the fire nation is principally concerned with power above all else, hence why they deviated so hard from the true meaning for fire bending taught to them by the dragons.

The fall of Avatar should be part of every animation and film school curriculum
