Over the past two years, the latest conflict in Sudan is estimated to have claimed at least 150,000 lives. Now, human rights organisation FairSquare has provided the latest calls for the British government’s Foreign Office to consider sanctions and investigate the role of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al-Nahyan — owner of Manchester City and deputy prime minister of Abu Dhabi — in the UAE government's alleged support of a paramilitary group accused of committing war crimes in the country. This follows on from former leader of the Conservative Party Iain Duncan Smith stating in parliament in January that Mansour was “possibly the most high-profile UAE investor in the UK economy” and arguing that the Foreign Office should undertake a “full assessment of whether representatives of the UAE Government may meet the criteria for sanctions”. The UK government has already sanctioned several private individuals and organisations in connection to the atrocities taking place in Sudan, which UN officials have stated carry “hallmarks of genocide”. The UAE strongly denies being a party to the conflict or supporting either side. @jwhitey98 explains why there have been calls to investigate potential sanctions against Man City's owner and what the possible consequences would be. 🔗 nytimes.com/athletic/72429…

It’s time for the @NBA to rethink its commercial partnership with Rwanda, whose army and senior officials the US government recently sanctioned for backing a deadly armed group in DR Congo that is committing “horrific human rights abuses.”

🇸🇩 @TheAthletic highlights increasing pressure on the UK government to investigate potential sanctions related to Man City's owner, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, over UAE's alleged support for the RSF in Sudan. Influential global institutions and figures can't remain disconnected from the humanitarian consequences of the war. As atrocities continue in Sudan, calls are increasing for greater accountability for those accused of enabling the conflict. Thanks to FairSquare for continuing to pressure foreign enablers of the war in Sudan. nytimes.com/athletic/72429…

The more we dig into Dubai real estate, the more links we find to Sudan’s brutal Rapid Support Forces. We’ve released new evidence that a network of family members, sanctioned individuals, and entities linked to the leadership of the RSF owns a $24 million real estate portfolio in Dubai consisting of over 20 properties. This is the fourth report by The Sentry that documents financial and operational links between the RSF and its leadership, namely the Dagalo family, and the UAE. thesentry.org/reports/24m-pr…

Libya is pushing to unlock billions in frozen sovereign wealth. Without reform, that move could cause more harm than good. In @The_NewArab, Justyna Gudzowska argues that the real issue isn’t the asset freeze—it’s persistent mismanagement, weak oversight, and corruption within the Libyan Investment Authority. Lifting restrictions without safeguards risks removing one of the last tools for accountability. Read more: newarab.com/opinion/absent…

20+ properties worth over $24 million. Our latest report reveals new evidence of the real estate portfolio in Dubai linked to the leadership of the brutal RSF militia. Why does it matter? The findings suggest that, in addition to reportedly supporting the militia with weapons and mercenaries, the United Arab Emirates provides a safe haven for the RSF leadership’s family and wealth.
