Today, I coincidentally ran into an estranged old friend. We stopped talking 2years ago because her husband used to message me and make unwanted advances. When I told her about it at the time, she wasn’t supportive, so I suggested we end the friendship.
We stumbled upon each other in a boutique & She smiled, but I ignored her. When she said hello, we ended up having a short talk. She told me she wanted to discuss something, and I found out her husband had left her a few months ago for another woman and not a stranger, but a distant relative of hers.
I didn’t know what to say, so I said, “Well, I feel sorry for you, but I don’t know what to say.” She wanted me to unblock her number and everything, but I quietly ignored her.
I wanted to be more empathetic, but I was cold. wonder if I’m judging myself too harshly, but I feel like we don’t always have to be available to everyone.
