AFM International President Tino Gagliardi issued the following statement regarding the escalating violence and federal enforcement actions in Minneapolis: We stand in solidarity with protestors exercising their First Amendment rights to demand justice and transparency. The outcry is not contained to the Twin Cities—throughout the entire country, Americans are peacefully and powerfully demanding an end to this chaos.  The AFM joins the broader labor movement and local leaders in demanding a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the killings of Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and all individuals who have died in ICE custody, to ensure full accountability.

Statement on Trump AI Executive Order: The “Ensuring a National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence” Executive Order directs the Trump Administration to work with Congress to “…ensure that children are protected, censorship is prevented, copyrights are respected, and communities are safeguarded.”  What follows is incongruous with that premise. This EO is nothing more than a rehashing of a deeply unpopular and misguided set of half-baked policies. Congress overwhelmingly rejected this very idea. The AFM is saddened by the passing of @Cleto Cleto Escobedo III, bandleader of Cleto and the Cletones on Jimmy Kimmel Live! For over two decades, Cleto and his band — which notably includes his father, Cleto Jr.— provided the late-night soundtrack to millions of homes. His musical genius and lifelong friendship with Jimmy created a unique, joyful presence that will never be replaced. A member of AFM Local 47 (Los Angeles, CA), Cleto was also a strong union advocate for his fellow musicians, most recently working with the AFM in safeguarding musicians' livelihoods as a key to preserving freedom of expression and speech in the arts. On behalf of the AFM, we send our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, bandmates, and colleagues. He will be profoundly missed.
