Mark 7:18-23 calls people who think this way "without understanding" "18 And he said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, 19 since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.) 20 And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” The object (food, a knife, Ai, social media) is neutral. It enters from outside and cannot defile by itself. Sin originates in the heart and flows OUT through the use of tools. Technology doesn't corrupt people, corrupt people corrupt technology. The Bible could warn about tools or technology, but it doesn't, instead it focuses on the true fault and it covers it so well one has to have an agenda to miss it: The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Ai as well as a banana are terrible things in the hands of fallen man. Tubal-Cain forged tools of bronze and iron - no condemnation, just a stated fact. The same metals make plows or swords. God didn't curse bricks when toppling the Tower of Babel, he scattered the people. Ai is just a tool. There not only is such a thing as "just a tool" it is a fact that every thing is just a tool.
C. R. Wiley@crwiley1962

There is no such thing as, “just a tool.” Tools are the products of intelligent design, reflecting an outlook on the world, and amplifying our agency. But there is a metaphysic present in every tool, working in and through them. And as we use tools we are shaping ourselves even though our attention is directed towards shaping the world; this is because we are creatures, relying on our surroundings, and embedded in them, as brain science has so helpfully shown. It’s the thoughtless use of tools that irritates me, a carelessness and insouciance that is both stupid and reckless. It is said that, “experience is the best teacher.” Not always the case. I’ve known people who’ve never learned a thing from experience. They did the same stupid things repeatedly. Experience is the school for people without a little imagination and prudence. We should have known filling schools and churches with screens would make us dumber, not smarter. Some people did warn us, but we didn’t listen because technophiles have a first class propaganda machine that serves to equate technology with intelligence.

And the app I've been writing, Kohera3D, doesn't have much to do with SQL or other databases. 3D Laser scan data yes, XML files yes. SQL not so much.

Well, I'm looking around for a new job. I liked my previous one, but things haven't gone well for the company as a whole, alas. Unfortunately, most .NET jobs involve ASP.NET and SQL, which I don't have much experience with, being a WPF guy :\

@SandyofCthulhu The only thing that could justify a remake would be if they treat Faramir properly. Muppets, however, is not a remake. It is Muppets. Muppets are always valid.

It's so hard to play evil characters in RPGs. Played Mothership last night and my goal given by the GM was eliminate the infected. Then when someone got infected, I knew my character would do it, but I just couldn't bring myself to say it!

@DougTenNapel At best it would just be a copy of your physical mind. I expect our soul is locked to our hardware for now, and thus all of our ability to experience.

@ChristianHeiens Shoutout to the video game Steredenn. Sure, it's not an in-depth story, as it's just a side scrolling space shooter, but the villains are the rebels this time around.

It's almost like "Order" itself is bad. After all, the First Order was bad. They're space Nazis, and space Nazis are bad. To rule is also bad, at least openly. Of course, the heroes always win in the end, and in doing so, they still get to rule, but they're never allowed to admit it. We need stories where "the Empire" is objectively the good guys and the ruling order openly admits that they're the ones who wield power, but in the name of something higher that's clearly good, just, beautiful, and true. We desperately need more works of fiction that depict an explicitly imperial power as a beacon of civilization.

I will never get over the fact that Disney chose to name the heroes of the Star Wars sequels "the Resistance", despite the fact that the Rebel Alliance overthrew the Empire decades earlier and re-established the Galactic Republic. There's a broader lesson in there about how modern writers and artists think about everything. They ALWAYS have to be the brave revolutionaries and are never willing to accept that a day could come when they themselves become the ruling order.

Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis just published this proposed map that stands a very good chance of passing. It flips 4 Democrat-held Congressional seats: 🔵FL-9 Darren Soto 🔵FL-14 Kathy Castor 🔵FL-22 Lois Frankel 🔵FL-25 Debbie Wasserman Schultz Long term, that Palm Beach seat could be cracked, and if you tried hard enough, you could possibly destroy the Orlando seat too, but this is pretty much exactly what we needed right now.
