Contrary to popular belief, you in fact do not need 100+ voices to be a voice actor. If you are an amazing actor with just your 1 voice that will take you further than being okay with 100 voices.

Hey VA’s, different countries have different trends and styles! From commercials to animation to games, what’s ’industry standard’ in one place, may not fly in another 🤷‍♀️ Train globally and always consider the production’s location when submitting 🌏

@hannah_chapin I got a pair right around when I turned 30 and had such fun with them. Can't remember where they disappeared to nearly 10 years ago, so you have my vote in part so I can live vicariously through your upcoming shenanigans haha

I'll tell yall rn as someone who went from Voice Acting to working behind the scenes in content creation. Most devs/creators in general don't know where to find actors and/or don't know the first thing about making a casting call. (🧵)
BonesVA🎙️@64BonesVA

to roblox devs out there who are making games, if you are looking for VAs, can you guys please just do casting calls? Im exhausted of these games just getting people without giving everyone a chance, it makes it kinda difficult to find work unless you know somebody on the team

@The__Neth I got it on ebay for a decent price. I use my keyboard shortcuts, but having colors is going to help my brain move much faster.

@DarrylJoseph138 Hahaha oh dang, did I? 😅 Well, I'm sorry and you're welcome 🤣 I got mine originally a handful of years ago when I thought I was going to stream a lot more than I did, but have found it invaluable across so many programs - none moreso than my beloved REAPER though haha

@AlyssaFerrariVO Yep yep! Even an entry-level mic can be made to sound amazing in a well-treated recording space, but a more expensive and highly sensitive mic in a poorly treated space will more than likely be unusable. Also, dropping ~$1K+ on a mic before earning from VO is a crazy step to me😅

agreed! beginning VAs don't need to buy great gear until you get serious about it. treating your space with mid gear can make all the difference!
Laneth 🍉 - VA & Audio Engineer (VA-focused)@The__Neth

@AlyssaFerrariVO Thank you for mentioning the importance of treating your space early on. The more we can get that into the minds of newcomers over the concept of "I need to buy the best gear or I won't be a professional...", the better!

I would have done SO MANY THINGS differently had I done research, like not make my first demo myself, treat my space correctly, & learn how to properly audition early on. I feel like I wasted years without asking questions or doing workshops ASK! QUESTIONS! LEARN FROM OTHERS!
Artisan Alchemy@ArtisanAlchemy_

Acting classes and workshops. Auditioning well and correctly. The astronomical starting cost from equipment to demos. These are just a few things to consider when you want to start voice acting! Do your research, and if you need guidance, don't be afraid to ask!

I can tell who casts many projects vs whos running their first project by how labor intensive the audition is. 1st time CDs expect a lot from the actor, 10 lines, 3 takes each, & what ends up happening is 5+ minute auditions that don’t get listened to past the first 10-20 seconds
Vanessa Benoit 🏳️‍🌈🇵🇭@VanessaBenVO

I think if you’re gonna ask people to do an excessive amount for an audition, you should probably give everyone the courtesy of listening to all the auditions before casting 🤓☝🏼

@KiChanVA I kinda feel like we should operate like this for all genres of voiceover, regardless of whether there's an NDA in place or not - unless the client has given express written permission or has requested that we share. Be excited, sure, but be respectful & professional.

If the project says NDA please respect it and speak NOTHING of it. Not even "I was cast for an NDA project" is very cute. It is just a project like any other, but it is a secret. Wait for the official release and permission to talk about it!! #voiceactors

@greasepunkcomic It sucks. IMDB is ridiculous. I have at least 5 credits that they refuse to let me add with no way to “fix” it.

@PattiKnoxVA Oh hell yeah, that's awesome! I love that we had such variety in hardware and were able to learn how to make our own programs, however simple or complex they may have been! What a time the pre-OS & pre-Internet computing/gaming era was 🤙🏻

@BreeFrankelVO I chose form over email, simply because the form can allow for file uploads, saving me time uploading files that (individually or collectively) exceed ~15MB, which many email servers still get pissy about these days 🥲

Voice actors!! When submitting for casting calls, do you prefer: - Reading from a Google Doc and submitting via email? - Reading from and submitting a Google Form? - Something else entirely? Trying to see something 👀

@PattiKnoxVA Good ol' Commodore 64 (and likely other computers from the 80s like Amstrad, etc) loaded programs and games that were recorded to cassette tape or the 5" floppy disks. With tape, you had to note down the timestamp for where to "start* the program code & rewind/fast forward first
