@robfnunn @Spedley1 @CharlieCooper8 @mrjamesob Also as someone who runs a 5 year old elec car and a 4 year old petrol car I can tell you which is significantly cheaper to run. And it's not the petrol one.

NEW: Labour manifesto confirms that party will reinstate 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel cars that Rishi Sunak last year pushed back to 2035

@robfnunn @Spedley1 @CharlieCooper8 @mrjamesob Co2 restrictions are essentially making it happen anyway. Ford is already culling petrol only models as they are impacting their fleet average too much.

@TVAddictStill @robfnunn @Spedley1 @CharlieCooper8 @mrjamesob Given both will lose 50% in the first 3 years I'd state that anyone worried about money would be an idiot to buy a new car. Especially given a lot of cars are coming with 5-10 year warranties.

@TVAddictStill @robfnunn @Spedley1 @CharlieCooper8 @mrjamesob There was chat about softening the 2030 deadlind to allow hybrids before it was binned. Regardless I don't see elec only as being crippling for the average family. Today on autotrader the cheapest elec new car is a Corsa £18.5k. The equivalent petrol Corsa is £15k.

@tomwookieford We charge our i3s off a 3 pin and have done since we got it in June. We get 10 miles per hour which is plenty for the usage the car gets. Figured the £1k we'd save could pay for a lot of fast charges. We've never had to charge away from home.

Am I missing anything? Do we actually need fancy charging stations? Cars can usually schedule charges these days etc..

Interesting one this: I’m living in a rental with no charge point for a bit, but neighbour has a spare commando socket (and solar+heat pumps!). Bought a 32a metered cable off t’internet - tells me how much I’ve used etc and charges at 30miles an hour. Not fancy, but works. #ev

@zMBailey @Voyager03 @Chris_Boardman [Taps mic] Is this on? No-one has said wearing a helmet is bad. I haven't. Chris didn't in his article.

It feels like an opportune moment to bring this out again. 'If you think high-vis and helmets are the answer, your'e asking the wrong question' There's also an old video that has very much stood the test of time.... chrisboardman.com/content/if_you…

@JethroBovingdon @tomwookieford We charge our i3s on a 3 pin and have done since we got the car in June. Ok it's not fast but it works out about 10 miles of range per hour which imho is fine unless you are arriving home with zero in the tank and need to do 150 miles the next day.

@tomwookieford I got a quote but it’s £1500. But will probably bite the bullet in the next month or two. I want to get onboard… but, not at the expense of rationality. Cost of entry, inconvenience of public charging and the cost of home chargers add up to a lot of barriers to entry.

Just paid £24.07 to add 94 miles of range in 38-mins. My mind is truly blown trying to get around in an EV. I will say the chargers I’ve experienced have all worked and been easy to use. Just cripplingly expensive. 👍🤷‍♂️🤯

@monzo when are you opening up joint accounts? Need to set one up in the next few weeks and really want to have everything with you. Been a personal account customer for ages and love it.

@A1GOY We love our i3s but no way we'd swap the family car for an ev. Simply doesn't work for the journeys that car does. EV is great if it fits your use case but I fear a lot of people bought them hoping the infra would catch up. It clearly hasn't.

Now spoken to three people (two are/were huge EV advocates) who're ditching their EVs when their leases are up. All cite infrastructure as the reason. As many times as we say 'it just takes planning,' a knackered network ain't gonna cut it.
Dr. Andy Palmer@AndyatAuto

EV charger @Shell_UKLtd broken. Appalling to hear my fellow EV drivers talking about trading out of EVs because of the lousy infrastructure… and this in London! $B’s spent on developing EVs to be let down by chargers; public charging in need of Ombudsman & regulatory Body.

I was going to get a facelift e208 but I think it actually might be a bit cramped with a larger car seat in the back. Factoring in depreciation, ride, comfort etc which of the id3 size vehicles would you buy? + new or second hand? @Andrew_Frankel @matty_prior @OllieMarriage

@woodtangclang @_theintercooler @Andrew_Frankel Yup. Our use case means we very rarely come home with near zero range and then need 100% by the morning. Worst case we spend £0.69 per kwh on super fast charger, but you get A LOT of them for the £900 install of a charger.

Dear all - a serious question: are you more or less interested in buying or running a full EV now than you were a year ago? If you do already, are your happy with your decision, fairly neutral or genuinely regret it? All sensible responses gratefully received.

This is a fascinating look by @Reuters at the man behind the bogus claims that shadowy forces used computers to steal the 2016 election. His claims were the germ of false election-conspiracy claims that are still circulating on the right. reuters.com/investigates/s…

@PaulVealsReal @sniffpetrol All depends on the journeys you are doing. It's sub zero in Glasgow just now and we are averaging 2 with our i3s. Heaters on and crawling thro the city for a 4 mile round trip commute. I can get 4 on a longer run no bother.

Any VW e-Up drivers out there find it's quite 'thirsty' as these things go? Mine's averaging 1.8 miles per kWh. Pffft.
