Journalism is sometimes confrontational. We seek answers. If any interview subject, especially with power, do not answer what I asked, I will try to interrupt and get a more focused response. That is my job & duty. I want answers and not just talking points.

What happened at that press briefing in Norway just confirms that no Indian uncle likes being asked a question which he can’t truthfully answer. This is made worse if the questioner is a woman. They are all so used to having people kowtow to them that they just cannot gracefully handle a little bit of heat. They need to dominate and yak and yak and try to show how smart they are and how intellectual and thoughtful with deep historical knowledge. They will do everything to turn that moment into an opportunity to show what they know, not what they should be answering. I’ve seen this pattern so many times and unfortunately it’s also contagious. It’s like they love listening to the sound of their own voice.
