Det är en grov förenkling som gränsar till historieförfalskning. Den svenska seden var en frivillig, kulturell tradition i en sekulariserad luthersk kyrka – en sed som naturligt dog ut när samhället blev mer jämlikt och sekulärt. Hijab däremot är i många sammanhang ett religiöst påbud kopplat till könssegregering och kvinnlig underordning. Vägran kan leda till socialt tryck, familjekonflikter, hot och misshandel – något som svenska domstolar har dömt i flera fall. Att som f.d. minister och ordförande för S-kvinnor blanda ihop frivillig historisk sedvänja med ett plagg som ofta symboliserar och upprätthåller kontroll över kvinnor är inte bara okunnigt.
