I was pleased to speak today with His Eminence, Cardinal Christophe Pierre.  As expected, he confirmed that recent media characterizations of his meeting with Undersecretary Colby are “fabrications” that were “just invented.” Given the intelligence and seriousness of Mr. Colby, I was likewise not suprised when His Eminence acknowledged there were no threats of any kind in the meeting.  “It was a frank and cordial meeting that took place two months ago.”  Threat of Avignon? “None.”

Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby @USWPColby had a substantive, respectful, and professional meeting with Cardinal Pierre, the then-Papal Nuncio, and his team on January 22, 2026. During the cordial meeting, they discussed a range of topics, including issues of morality in foreign policy, the logic of the U.S. National Security Strategy, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and other topics. Cardinal Pierre expressed his appreciation for the outreach and both sides looked forward to continued open and respectful dialogue. In light of grossly false and distorted recent reporting, the Department of War repeats its statement: Recent reporting of the meeting is highly exaggerated and distorted. The meeting between Pentagon and Vatican officials was a respectful and reasonable discussion. We have nothing but the highest regard and welcome continued dialogue with the Holy See.

JUST IN: The President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop Paul Coakley, has issued a statement saying: “The threat of destroying a whole civilization and the intentional targeting of civilian infrastructure cannot be morally justified. … I call on President Trump to step back from the precipice of war and negotiate a just settlement for the sake of peace and before more lives are lost.” usccb.org/news/2026/arch…

We wanted good takes on both sides of the Epic Fury question -- not from people with predictable anti-Trump political priors, but from two patriots. @WeTheBrandon and @EdWoodsonshow take on the question -- what's at stake for US in Iran? Is it 'America First' to put boots on the ground in Kharg Island? Read for yourself: dailycaller.com/2026/04/03/opi… dailycaller.com/2026/04/03/opi…
Daily Caller@DailyCaller

BIG TENT IDEAS: As the conflict in Iran continues, let’s shed light on two perspectives. One side argues that the U.S. is being pulled deeper into an escalation cycle, warning: "Trump has found himself trapped in an escalation cycle. Clearly, the Iran War was not entirely Trump’s idea. It was an Israeli plan designed to advance Israeli interests at the expense of everyone else. Now that the Americans are stuck in another Middle Eastern quagmire, the president does not want to look weak. He is not seeking de-escalation under the current circumstances." The other side of the pendulum argues that this is not a military maneuver, but a political one 👇 "The Iranian regime has also decided to choke off oil shipments to the world, an action that has driven up gas prices and threatened a global recession. Using the chokepoint of the Strait of Hormuz, the regime’s attack on shipping and threats to mine the entire area have slowed vital energy shipments to a crawl. This is not a military maneuver; it is a political one." The question is: where do you find yourself in the debate?

HUGE: The Chinese-Americans accused of attempting to explode an IED at MacDill Air Force Base Visitor’s center in Tampa were anchor babies for illegal parents, colleague @MaryMargOlohan reports. DHS nabbed the duo’s parents, Qiu Qin Zou and Jia Zhang Zheng, on March 18 for illegal entry. The parents applied for asylum in 1993, but were denied by an immigration judge, who issued them a deportation order in 1998. The Board of Immigration Appeals repeatedly denied their attempts to have their case reopened. Despite the repeated denials for status, they remained in the US. dailywire.com/news/exclusive…

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson's solo dissent climaxes in a feverish "slippery slope" argument you have to read to believe. Striking down a Colorado law that basically bans anything but "affirming" treatment to gender-confused kids could lead to the unraveling of the entire medical system, according to KBJ.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court sides 8-1 with a Christian mental health counselor who challenged Colorado's ban on "conversion therapy," finding the law regulates her speech based on viewpoint. "The First Amendment stands as a shield against any effort to enforce orthodoxy in thought or speech in this country," Justice Gorsuch writes.

Since @LindseyGrahamSC is at Disney World as the US mulls putting boots on the ground in Iran, here's an interesting Iran-Disney story: Disney planned a Persian-themed resort in the '70s. The resort was cancelled in 1973 due to the oil crisis, but was nearly revived later that decade. The then-Shah of Iran Mohammed Reza Pahlavi was apparently interested in funding the Disney's Persian Resort himself in 1978 -- But never did, because he was deposed in the Iranian Revolution. The project was shelved permanently because the Ayatollah was very hostile to the U.S. No idea if that's what's on Sen. Graham's mind these days... but here's what it could have looked like.
