@ClayTravis Personally, I think the rule was a massive overreaction to one incident.

@ClayTravis They just added this rule a couple of months ago after a Portuguese player made a racist comment to another player during a Champions League game in Europe. The rationale is that you wouldn't cover your mouth unless you were saying something naughty.

@SourdeathSam @Dragonsjet Can't see it happening. Fiji doesn't have any stadiums that would remotely qualify as World Cup sites. New Zealand has one or two. The most Oceania could hope for is that one group plays their games in New Zealand and everyone else is in the U.S.

Crazy we’re gonna have to wait another 30+ years for another World Cup in the US. Only one week in and I don’t want the vibes to end.

@FIFAWorldCup Mexico are the least impressive team with two wins I have seen. They are bang average and will lose in the next round if they play a team with a pulse.

@varadmehta The fact she is American has nothing to do with refereeing the final. A Pole reffed the final in 2022 in Qatar, an Argentine in 2018 in Russia, and an Italian in 2014 in Brazil.

The referee for the Czechia-South Africa game is Tori Penso, the female American official who oversaw the Women's World Cup final between Spain and England in 2023. She has to be one of the favorites to get the final of this one in a month if the US mean aren't in it.

@heisen_bach @JoePompliano @nechiporchik312 Australia is part of the Asian federation. New Zealand has 3-4 venues that could host games. None of the other Oceanian countries have anything close to World Cup worthy stadia. USA 2038 here we come!

@JoePompliano @nechiporchik312 After all these confederations, up until 2034, next up ‘38 Oceanic would make sense. A combined Australia / New Zealand bid sounds pretty neat. Plenty of large capacity stadiums available. Climate could be game breaker for June/July.

I have been critical of FIFA and the way they distributed tickets for this World Cup. But the first week of this tournament has been a huge success, and they deserve credit for that. Stadiums are full, crowds have been great, and viewership is through the roof. The World Cup will be back in the U.S. before we know it.

@ManagerTactical Considering all of the other confederations are hosting either the 2030 or 2034 World Cup, it will almost certainly be back in the USA in 2038. Hopefully we can host it solo. We don't need Mexico or Canada.

Based on how this World Cup is going(Success), the USA 🇺🇸 should host one every decade. It should and likely will be back here in 2038.

@finalthrd Darren Fletcher and Owen Hargreaves are significantly better than anyone else on FOX. They should get the final. Their genuine love for the game shines through in their commentary.

overall been impressed by FOX’s coverage of the World Cup but just cannot get through a John Strong game. I have never heard somebody ramble off more useless trivia while having so little to say about the game itself

I mean, if your goal is to find the host with the best infrastructure, and the most commercializable market, it *would* be the USA every time. With FIFA shifting to a "multiple simultaneous hosts" model, I don't think it will be 32 years before the USA hosts again.

The Iran vs New Zealand game is almost full in Los Angeles for the World Cup. In no fucking country you’d have over 60-70k people for a game like this lmao. FIFA should just make the World Cup in the U.S. a permanent thing

@irishdec316 @ThomasVarnado4 @nocontextfm1 They have to rotate between different soccer regions, 2026 - CONCACAF 2030 - CONMEBOL, UEFA and CAF 2034 - AFC Technically the next one is OFC (Oceania), and then it would have to go back to CONCACAF in 2042

@LfcSince @FFScout_Granny Their most notable result in the last 20 years is getting obliterated 7-1 at home by Germany, and the whole country started crying. The exact opposite of "aura."

@FFScout_Granny It’s Brazil that’s why! They’ve won the most world cups. The famous Yellow and blue kit. The fans. R9, Carlos and Cafu in the crowd. You could play a team of people who have never kicked a ball. They wear that jersey and it’s just AURA!

One thing I hate about British commentators at the World Cup is the way they fawn over Brazil, a country that has gone 24 years since making the final.

26-27 Changes to the laws: VAR may review: -an incorrect red card resulting from a clearly wrong second yellow card -a player wrongly being shown a red or yellow card when the offence was committed by another player of either team. Yesterday's incident clearly falls under the 2nd provision.

@DaleJohnsonBBC On the FOX broadcast, Mark Clattenburg said this is exactly the situation the law change was brought in to address, so no, it was not a misapplication of the laws of the game.

@DaleJohnsonBBC Other than the VAR review being late, it was a brilliant decision rightly lauded by pundits around the world. Simulation is a disgrace to the game, and this is how it can be stamped out.

Musk is worth more than South Africa’s GDP. @BernieSanders and I proposed a 5% tax on people like him. In one year, it could fund: - free public college & trade school -$10/day childcare - Special-needs education nationwide Wealth inequality is the moral failure of our time.

Those who celebrate @elonmusk's $1 trillion fortune need to be reminded of a simple and vital truth: That there is a fundamental tension between extreme wealth and the very possibility of democracy.

Confession: I think soccer is awesome mostly *because* the whole world loves it; the fans, the nationalism, the intensity, the pageantry. It's all spectacular. But the game itself is just ok. Not bad, but far from great. Exciting moments, but often pretty dull.

@DaleJohnsonBBC Yet another asinine decision. VAR should either review potential corners or not. Doing it in some cases and not others is absurd.
