For what this is worth, I think it was an entirely justifiable risk to take. I think the No. 5 pick in a super guard-heavy range of the draft didn't make all that much sense for them. The Pacers are ready to go try to make the Finals again. Zubac is gonna be awesome for them.

The only way the Zubac trade could even be close to a win for the #Pacers is if he becomes a 4-5x first-team all-NBA player or leads the team to an NBA title. Giving up a top-five pick in a deep draft is a massive, massive blow.

“We had to though.” It’s called a negotiation and KP got out negotiated and it bit him/Pacers. He literally apologized and said I thought we’d have better luck and not lose the #5 pick. Just bc something didn’t happen doesn’t mean it couldn’t have been negotiated to happen better.

As long as Pacers ownership is willing to pay to keep this core together for the long run they made the right decision. A top pick would’ve been great but this is the best 5 we have ever had and we were in Game 7 of the Finals 11 months ago

I'm really sorry to all our fans. I own taking this risk. Surprised it came up 5th after this year. I thought we were due some luck. But please remember - this team deserved a starting center to compete with the best teams next year. We have always been resilient.

Pacers President Kevin Pritchard said today the Clippers would not trade Ivica Zubac at the deadline unless the 2026 pick was top-4 protected. Indiana pushed for heavier protections, but LA wouldn’t budge. Instead of holding off, Indiana decided to roll the dice and gamble it.

The Pacers are the first team in NBA history to finish a season with less than 20 wins and not have a first-round pick to draft afterwards. Indiana must win a title now with Ivica Zubac in their current roster window to avoid this being viewed as a historically bad trade.

Zubac is a good player for sure, but he’s 30 when next years playoffs start, can’t shoot 3s (spread floor), is not a great fit for fast pace team, and OBJECTIVELY it was a way too risky overpay. They didn’t protect themselves hardly at all! Again if 29/31 were Top3/5/7 protected cool, but risking the #5 pick this year (“I thought we were due for good luck” KP) and/or future #1 picks with a recent #6 pick Mathurin (our highest draft pick since 1988) + I-Jax to anyone objective is way too much!

That’s cope. It was a massive Pacers overpay for a good not great center who is 29 years old, doesn’t shoot 3s at all, and isn’t a great fit for a fast paced team. We haven’t had a Top5 pick since 1988 and KP just included recent #6 Mathurin, #5 in 2026, 29 unprotected AND I-Jax! Forget adding the #5 pick it’s a great asset to trade if we don’t love anyone available! Anyone trying to pretend this isn’t bad is coping. If the trade was Mathurin + I-Jax + 29/31 Top5 protected that’s a slight overpay. For it to be unprotected for both OR instead of 29 a coin flip at best for 5-9 is massive overpay period.
