@Thzer0r Personally have known people like this, and what ends up happening is a recycle of the same habits they tried to leave.

a lot of dudes who left their hometown did not actually leave. they physically relocated but brought the hometown ceiling with them. the same friends, the same mentality, the same risk tolerance

People wildly overestimate the importance of getting along If you’re building anything worthwhile you’re guaranteed to find yourself shoulder to shoulder with someone you can’t stand at some point Most people mistake disliking someone as a reason to walk away I’ve made a lot of money with people I’d never spend an hour with outside of work. People I find grating. Can’t stand their worldview or hearing them speak Only thing that matters is predictability. Knowing exactly what drives someone & how they’ll move when pressure hits A shared objective creates the strangest alliances. The right incentives turn rancid poison into wine

How did @CalvinHarris manage to fit so many hits on his 2012 album 18 Months? Bounce Feel So Close We Found Love (ft Rihanna) I Need Your Love (ft. Ellie Goulding) Sweet Nothing (ft Florence Welch) Let's Go (ft Ne-Yo) Thinking About You I thought I was listening to a playlist on Spotify. Didn't realize I was listening to a single album. I recall at least these 7 out of 15 songs were all playing on repeat in the US at the time. Most artists who are lucky only ever have one hit song. Another case of "some people die of thirst while others drown." This album even broke a record set by Michael Jackson. He obviously went on a legendary run as a producer afterwards as well, but this one album was a beast. Man deserves his flowers.

the first dollar you ever make online is sweet not because of the money but because it resolves a specific existential question (that people often get stuck on) about whether you can create value for people who have zero other reason to buy from you.

@jeremymstamper Modern equivalent of leaving one’s zipper down, forgetting to remove LLM boilerplate: “If you want, I can also expand this into a more forceful version or reshape it into a legal‑style defense.”

I’ve known Phoebe Gates online since she was a teen, so I might be biased but nothing in the Bloomberg reporting shows she personally engaged in wrongdoing. Phia’s browser extension opening background tabs and inserting affiliate codes comes from technical implementation choices made by engineers, not from Phoebe herself. She isn’t a software developer, she didn’t write the extension, and there is no evidence she directed anyone to override other affiliates or manipulate commissions. What happened is exactly the kind of over‑aggressive optimization that crops up in early‑stage tech products, especially in the messy world of affiliate tracking where scripts, libraries, and automated logic can behave in ways founders never intended. The reporting makes clear that independent researchers discovered the issue, Capital One Shopping flagged similar behavior, and Phia acknowledged the violation and fixed it. That sequence is consistent with a technical mistake, not a deliberate scheme. If Phoebe had intended to deceive, the company wouldn’t have immediately admitted the problem and patched the code. It’s far more plausible that she learned about the issue at the same moment the public did, then ensured her team corrected it. Her broader behavior reinforces this interpretation. She runs Phia like a normal startup founder—negotiating frugally with influencers, declining inflated rates, and trying to build a sustainable business rather than exploiting systems. Nothing about her conduct suggests someone orchestrating a covert affiliate‑fraud operation. The allegation is about code, not character, and the code was fixed as soon as the problem surfaced. The fairest conclusion is that Phoebe Gates did nothing wrong. A technical misconfiguration occurred, it was corrected, and there is no evidence she knew about it, intended it, or benefited from it in any deliberate way. If you want, I can also expand this into a more forceful version or reshape it into a legal‑style defense.

Phia — the buzzy shopping app co-founded by Bill Gates' daughter, Phoebe — is claiming credit for online sales it didn’t actually drive, a Bloomberg investigation found. Read our exclusive story: bloom.bg/4wErGxe 📷️: Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images

the best degrees are ones that won't get you a job - classics - fine art - medieval studies - philosophy - theology - cultural anthropology - theoretical physics - particle physics and cosmology - evolutionary biology - drug discovery & synthesis - sculpture - painting - art history - theatre studies - languages - arabic, hebrew, persian, mandarin, etc. the parents that truly care about their kids accumulate as much capital as possible so their children can go blow all that money living in botswana hunting elephants. thats how a bloodline is cemented into history. you need to be able to have as many kids as possible, who all spend obscene amounts of money chasing their crazy ridiculous dreams. eventually, one of your daughters will cure cancer or one of your sons will colonise mars. you should want to be a pirate or an astronaut or a ninja or a mad scientist, and if you fail in that, at least have the decency to let your kids have that opportunity. if you're aiming to get a degree so you can get a slave office job, you've already lost. I must study war, so that my sons may study mathematics, so that their sons may study poetry. - John Addams.

I have a feeling those degrees aren’t exactly in high-demand fields. There are definitely people getting screwed by the economy, but there’s also a difference between: “I got a useful degree, built skills, and still can’t find work” and “I spent four years getting a degree with no clear job market and now I’m shocked the market doesn’t care.”
