@AlafrigginBama Brother, you can keep the guy without that big of a buyout for the school. Anything over 30 million starting off is absolutely ridiculous. Look at FSU the last few years. Hope it works out.

I’ve sat for a few hours, read through a lot of comment sections regarding this new contract and there are some things that should be said. First - A lot of Alabama fans are forgetting the immediate offseason interest in Kalen DeBoer from a few BIG 10 programs. One fanbase was so sure they were going to “lure him away” from Alabama that it caused an all out war on this app. Secondly - When large dynamics shift, things take time to settle into normalcy. This unconfirmed period is also a privileged time for learning. In the world of college football - that goes for coaches too. Alabama still finds themselves right in the middle of that transition but things are starting to settle into place. Patience is hard, I know, but it’s necessary. There are programs who were ruined after losing a head coach. Maybe not ruined but they were a shell of themselves. Think Florida when Urban Meyer bounced. There aren’t many programs in the country that could lose Nick Saban and make the playoff two seasons removed. We also have to ask ourselves who out there would put Alabama in a better spot to compete? Even since Saban retired - the college sports world has changed dramatically. Who could come in, be willing to come in, step into the shadow while navigating this new world of NIL and roster management? Kalen DeBoer and Alabama obviously have settled on focusing heavily on high school recruiting (and hopefully retention of those recruits). That’s how they’re rolling. Should they be more aggressive in the portal? Maybe, but Bama’s bread and butter, and their advantage (kids coming out of HS dreamed of playing at Bama) sits in High School recruiting. This staff has recruited very well - it’s one of their more impressive feats considering the monumental change of losing Nick Saban. I’m not saying it shouldn’t be better - it needs to be better. The Standard is STILL the Standard after all. I am saying that Alabama Football is in a much better place than it probably should be right now. Lastly, a lot of fans have also forgotten that Nick Saban, the guy they compare everything to, played a precision role in this hire. He called DeBoer “one of the brightest football minds.” Are we really not going to trust him? Some things need to change - attitude and physicality need to return to Tuscaloosa for sure, I just don’t think you can bad mouth this guy’s new contract while still praying that the guy who lobbied for him would come back.

I said some of this in our post and last night as well, people kept coming after Deboer so that was the leverage. and maybe it's not from him but it's certainly from his agent. And with the recruiting he and the staff has been doing, I don't think people realize how much it would set the program back if he left. I think people outside the program value him much more than the fan base does. Look at how this discussion is going. Only losses are mentioned, and that's all. I think people believe if Deboer left or was fired that everyone would stay and the next coach would just jump in and take right over and make everything better. That's simply not the case.

I get the frustration—but let’s keep it accurate. It’s not one bad year, it’s eight losses across two seasons, and he’s still 20–8 overall. That’s not falling apart—that’s a program adjusting. And the reality is, there isn’t a line of national championship–level coaches just waiting for Alabama to call (not just bama anybody). On top of that, not every coach wants this job. Following a dynasty means every single detail is under a microscope some guys don’t want that pressure. That’s why it matters that DeBoer is willing to step into it and embrace the challenge. Do we need to be better? Absolutely. That standard doesn’t change. But moving on from him or worse, letting another program come in and take him creates a much bigger problem. If Alabama loses him, especially in a messy situation, you’re risking serious recruiting damage. Classes fall apart, momentum disappears, and now you’re scrambling to find someone to pick up the pieces. That’s how instability starts. Holding the standard is one thing but overreacting and resetting everything after a 20–8 start isn’t the answer. #RollTide #AlabamaFootball

@DomoReacts @jtthebamafan - loss 8 games in 2 seasons - built back to back struggling offenses when he’s supposedly a offensive guru - coming off a 38-3 beat down vs Indiana 10 million a year to 2031 wasn’t enough ?

Clickbait fake outrage from national media for Alabama extending DeBoer is as comical is it is aggravating. Sark is hardly a hare behind DeBoer compensation wise, hasn’t gone to a national title game and that reinforces the truth that Alabama still steers the ship when creating conversation around college football. National media knows (or should) how the business works and agents maneuver behind the scenes to get the most for their clients and therefore themselves. Most those folks have agents of their own (many the same representation as coaches). So to pinpoint DeBoer’s extension as some radical move is just throwing 💩 at the wall to see what sticks. And they got me hook, line and sinker because I just tweeted an essay about it

Bama Perspective
Bama Perspective@bamaperspective·
There's been some renewed discussion on whether Kalen DeBoer is on the hot seat now that we've given him a contract extension. My thoughts: -A $10 million buyout in January 2027 is far from prohibitive. But if I'm understanding correctly, Bama owes KDB 90% of his remaining salary *I think*, or some percentage, on top of the buyout as well. Either way, you're talking a substantial, Top 5 all-time amount of money for a buyout, I think? -However, the '27 class could be another really good one. All the commitments haven't landed yet, but it sure seems like we're in a great spot for some big ones. -More than that, QB Keelon Russell could be a returning starter, Heisman candidate and headed toward being a high pick in the NFL draft in '28. You could return your entire OL, which could be much better in '27 than last year. Could have EJ Crowell, Lotzeir Brooks, Cederain Morgan and others at the skill positions. Underclassmen litter the two-deep on both sides of the football. Lots of your '26 portal class in the defensive front seven can return. -Assuming that the OL/running game is headed in the right direction (not great/perfect, but trending well) and the special teams is better ... I see us on paper as a Top 3-4 team entering the '27 season. -Are you really gonna risk blowing all that up if you go 8-4 this year, with a bunch of close losses to Playoff teams with a roster that was really built to peak more in '27 than '26? -Or are you gonna take the tens of millions it would cost to buy out DeBoer and staff, plus run a new coaching search, and spend more on the portal next offseason, knowing it's your year to go all-in after another natty? -Let's say you do fire DeBoer. In all likelihood, you're getting someone with an equal, or probably worse, resume at the time of the hire than DeBoer had when we hired him. DeBoer is already on the hot seat with a segment of the fan base and will face enormous pressure if Bama goes under the betting season win total of 8.5. That's when Greg Byrne would have to earn the big bucks, having to make a Big Boy decision in the face of huge pressure. Now, if it's clear that DeBoer isn't "the guy," yes, there's a scenario where I could see Bama moving on. But you better be VERY sure of that given the stakes. Blowing up what could be your best roster since Nick Saban's final year, or even further back than that, for an unknown future is very risky. To me, you need to evaluate how DeBoer problem solves. The offensive line, the running game, special teams, the team's propensity to be injured/tired late in the season, the team's bad habit of blowing some games as a double-digit favorite. If he's making sensible, decisive moves to identify the issues and solve them, and he's making progress on them, to me, you don't blow up a super exciting '27. I think the odds he's gone in a year are tiny.

@bamaperspective Hot take: Saban didn’t hit on a lot of his final recruiting classes, so despite on paper the team KDB inherited being full of 4 and 5 star talent, they weren’t exactly a juggernaut roster. Firing KDB before seeing a full 4 seasons out of him would be foolish (barring a meltdown)

I don’t care what anyone says or thinks, Kalen DeBoer will win Alabama a National Championship There’s not one coach that would’ve taken that Alabama job when Nick Saban retired. You have to give DeBoer props for taking the job. Going 20-8 in his first 2 years at Alabama is not bad at all. People will probably disagree but me personally it’s pretty damn good just in the situation he has been in for the past 2 seasons. DeBoer being able to have a top 5 recruiting class for the past 2 years now at Alabama is very impressive, people literally said that Kalen DeBoer will not be able to recruit in the SEC, well he has been proving people wrong. Kalen DeBoer deserves that contract extension that he got today. You will see Alabama win a National Championship under Kalen DeBoer. #RollTide #AlabamaFootball

@On3 The SEC made the decision to go to a 9 game conference schedule (which they did not have to do) expecting the playoff to expand to 16. If you’re a fan of an SEC team, 16 is the best option.

No, Kalen DeBoer’s 9-2 record against that specific group (Smart, Lanning, Sarkisian, Venables, Riley) stands alone among active coaches. Most haven’t faced the full slate nearly as often, and none match his win rate against them. DeBoer’s edge in big-matchup wins is real. Roll Tide!
