It’s a new day in America.

Just to reset, the President of the United States sicced his supporters on Congress and his own Vice President, leading to a violent coup attempt that disrupted the peaceful transition of power. He should be removed and arrested alongside the terrorists who carried out his will.

This is a coordinated coup attempt. They planned this. Explosives have been found outside the RNC and Capitol, both apparently taken care of. This is an attack on the country. There's literally no other way to describe it.

I’m currently in lockdown in the House chamber as the President of the United States incites his supporters to violence and to storm the Capitol. This is the outcome of Trump’s presidency.

My god. All of this was so predictable and so preventable. What a shameful, shameful tragedy this is.

And so, in our nation’s capital, Trumpism ends in terrorism.

Violence is always unacceptable. Even when passions run high. Anyone engaged in violence—especially against law enforcement—should be fully prosecuted. God bless the Capitol Police and the honorable men & women of law enforcement who show great courage keeping all of us safe.

What should happen in the next 24 hours: 1. Clear the Capitol—as peacefully as possible, but in any case remove the mob from the seat of the legislative branch of our government. 2. Reconvene and finish counting the electoral votes. 3. Impeach in the House, convict in the Senate.

I support peaceful protests but not violence and destruction. People need to leave the Capitol now! This is a national embarrassment.

Trump is being encouraged by staff to put out a stronger statement after his supporters breached the Capitol, but so far has declined to do so or tell people to leave the building. He's watching coverage from the West Wing, I'm told.
