@handyosprey @its_The_Dr I often wondered if a local glazing firm near me would ever get a letter - MS Windows. I do know that a guy that set up Virgin Computers also local to me, did get a cease and desist from that company.

@glenngabe So if rel canonical is essentially being ignored, what's the workaround? Internal link volume being a stronger signal? Blocking in robots.txt seems ideal, but in reality is completely ineffective - Google can't crawl the page to find your newly-added noindex and canonicals! 😭

@Tillison Yep, can be a big problem on large-scale and complex sites! And even worse when the urls Google selects as the canonical are NOT the best versions of the content. Did you see the part about cascading to ChatGPT and Perplexity? That was interesting... :)

That issue can grow quickly and cause a number of problems SEO-wise. But now with AI Search, we have another problem. As ChatGPT, Perplexity, and others leverage/scrape Google's results, those canonical decisions by Google can cascade to AI Search. And that's exactly what I saw during my research. @glenngabe I did. And I'm not surprised. I guess it *could* just be that the crawling and selection process is the same as Google's, not that they're using Google's dataset. That seems a bit inefficient though, right?

@ShopiatorOps @adsliaison Tickets raised last week. No response. Merchant Centre yesterday. No update. Just - "sort it by 2nd Feb or else" - "we'll review it. Maybe. Sometimes. When we feel like it." So I removed the USA from the feed targeting. Sorry friends, you're a bit too picky and non-responsive

Contact the support, raise two tickets and have your Google Rep escalate the case. The Reps are useful in situations like these!

@ShopiatorOps @adsliaison There's no option to request a review of the issue. I raised a support ticket 2 days ago. Nothing. Waiting for the entire account to be suspended feels like waiting for the boat to sink so we can fix a leak.

@Tillison @adsliaison If the shopping ads are serving then Google should actually review inconsistent product data automatically and as frequently as possible… Because the user experience matters! You do get time to appeal at your convenience though when GMC is suspended.

@adsliaison Hey Ginny. Being able to request a review would be helpful. Instead, we're left with a looming deadline and no confirmation that (Google is satisfied that) the issue is fixed, nor when it will be reviewed.

@tonyblackburn And that's if you can work out how to use the awful website. I spent an hour trying to work out what I was supposed to pay (zero), then; - had to pay anyway - had to register with TFL - had to register the car (confirmed EV on the site). - provided the V5C Still no refund.

As from January 2nd Electric vehicles will have to pay the London congestion charge, and we thought it was all bout making the air cleaner. Now we find out it’s all about getting more money from the motorist. What a surprise !!!

@Lyndonx So sorry for your loss, firstly. That's tough. Secondly, I'm surprised they didn't make up a tax amount first and ask questions later. It seems to be the current policy as far as tax is concerned.

I have been sorting out my kids inheritance tax after their mother passed 6 weeks ago. What a nightmare and so unfair in every way. 1. Gifts going back 7 years taxed at 40%. 7 years if bank statements. 2. 6 months to pay IHT bill whilst burying, grieving, getting valuations, gathering 7 years bank statement, 6 months of bills, prepping house for sale (to pay the tax they have to sell their home), court then probate, selling the house. Just 6 months to do this or 7.5-8.5% interest applies!!! It’s an impossible target to meet. 3. Content valuation of table chairs, pictures and ornaments taxed at 40% This is money she paid a huge tax bill on just 3 years ago after my 32 years of work building a business and giving out over 5,000 jobs. Now just 3 years later another 40% (after tax free amount £325k jointly). It’s theft in every way. My kids (young adults) life horrified and created a lot of anxiety trying to get things valued and sold whilst burying their mother. Disgusting @Keir_Starmer a disgrace the human race and my country. Get out or get thrown out.

This week has been a crazy week of mixed emotions... I've been working on a business deal that would have made me a multi-millionaire virtually overnight. Got right through to the 11.11 th hour and... A VC funded company came and snapped it away from me even though they would be making a loss with the deal they came in with. It was gut wrenching. But... at least I'm in no worse position than I was. Which in fact... is not a bad position at all...
