@darrellstetler2 Thank you. Just a quick note for accuracy that the PPP and the ERC are two slightly different parts of the CARES Act that was signed into law by Trump in 2020 and extended by Biden in 2021.

Aaand now it comes out. 30% of US churches and 50% of evangelical colleges—accepted PPP loans during COVID. Christianity Today was one of them. For tax purposes, this was treated as a government grant. And, **they never actually received the money!** The truth is, that Meg Basham etc should not have been taking a victory lap over this. The implication that this proved that they were "shepherds for sale" all day yesterday (with tens of thousands of retweets), was implying an untruth -- i.e. it was a lie. But a lie (especially on new populist-evangelical-industrial-complex Twitter) will go around the world twice while the truth is still putting on its pants. Read the comments. There will be no apology for the implied lie, because "well they're liberal anyway, so they're trash and need to be taken out." This is wrong, brothers and sisters. Repent while there's still time!

@PastorMark @CTmagazine This was an Employee Retention Credit. We booked (per instructions from our auditors) the revenue in 2023 when we applied. We still haven't actually received it, alas. Our 990s are public.

@donbatesjr @darrellstetler2 USAID funded some good things and some things we would disagree with, but it has never sent funds to CT. The ERC is a tax credit through the IRS. It was part of the CARES Act signed by Trump in 2020 and expanded by Biden the following year.

@darrellstetler2 So…….are you saying CT did not receive any funds from USAID? USAID did not give PPP loans. And, how quickly you instruct everyone to repent. Are you sure of the facts as represented by CT?

@reachjulieroys Also, FYI, this was an employee retention tax credit for which we applied in 2023, and which we still have not received. I suspect we never will receive it, not because we don't qualify but bc we haven't bent the knee.

In the early 1990s, folks with college degrees were significantly less likely to believe in religious miracles than those with a high school diploma. That's not true anymore. There is no statistical difference between definitely believing in miracles across levels of education
